Honest Opinions Please!

My fave girl name for awhile has been Allegra. The allergy medication connection made it a no go for awhile, but now I'm at the point of thinking we should just go for it regardless.

I'd appreciate honest thoughts please. Would you think it weird to meet a little Allegra?

I'd probably always think of the medication in the back of my mind, but it's a lovely name, so I wouldn't side eye it.

I love that too.  However, I always think of the medicine and some kid's show Allegra's Window or something like that.

This is one of my guilty pleasure names. Beautiful name, but my husband vetoed it because of the association with the medication name. If that doesn't bother you, then I can't think of any other issues with it.

I associate it with the music term, allegro, and Allegra Kent, the ballerina.

LOVE LOVE LOVE Allegra.  It's one of my most favorite names of all time.  That said, I can't get past the allergy medication.  I don't even have allergies, so I've never taken it, but it would bum me out if someone said "Oh like the allergy medication?" when I indroduced my baby. I certainly wouldn't side eye it, and I'd actually envy your confidence in using the name. I think you should use it, and remind people that the name Allegra has been around a hell of a lot longer than some over the counter pill!

Total honest reaction, I remember this was the name of a character in a silly romcom and I remember rolling my eyes when they said her name. Not because of the medicine, though it does remind me of it, it just seemed so cheesy fake on her in the movie.

There's nothing wrong with it, I just remember having that reaction.

My sister just named my niece Allegra!  I think it's beautiful.  It's pretty to look at, pretty to say, etc.  My sister is a dancer so she liked the link to Allegra Kent.  I think at first I thought of the allergy medicine, but now that Allegra is here (she's 6 weeks old!), I only think of her now.  Her proud big sister is named La.ur.el.

I think it's beautiful! Some people will associate it with the med, but it's been a human name for much longer than it's been a medication name.

Allegra is my absolute favorite GP name of all time.  I actually almost used it as DD's middle name, but we had a last minute change of heart.

My DH said absolutely no way to using it as a first name, but if he would have been on board, I might have had a little Allegra running around.

Honestly, once it is attached to your DD, I don't think you will care about the allergy medicine connection.

I know a little Allegra. There's nothing wrong with it. It's just not for me. And unfortunately, I do think of the medicine.

I think it's really pretty. The medication association doesn't bother me. Not everyone is going to think of the medicine.

We plan on naming our daughter Alegra (with just one L - the Spanish spelling).  She's due in less than 2 weeks and while I am a little worried about people making the medicine connection, we think it's a beautiful name and we love the spelling.  I also plan on calling her Aly (still deciding on the spelling of the nickname...)

I say go for it :)

My mother wanted to name me Allegra, from a line in the Longfellow poem "The Children's Hour" that talks about "laughing Allegra, at the top of the stair..."

My dad nixed it. And that was 40 years ago.

I still think it's lovely.

Absolutely beautiful name. I would use it in a heartbeat.
I also think of Allegra Kent and Amber Valletta's character PP mentioned from "Hitch". I like that movie though so it's not a negative association to me :

Love Allegra!!!  The allergy medication thing doesn't bother me in the slightest.  Once someone meets your girl with the name, I bet their association will change.

Do it.  Dooooo it!

While I can't help but think of the medication or kid's show I don't think that is a bad thing. There are horrible names out there with no such connection. Allegra is pretty use it if you love it.

This is my favorite girl name too!  I thought it was a dark horse.

I like it beause I used to study ballet and loved it when I first studied Allegra Kent (NYC Ballet).

I know one Allegra (adult) and her mom named her after the ballerina as well.

When I get pregnant with #2 if it's a girl this will be her name.  Hopefully no one in my circle will come up with it first.

I love Allegra, always have. It does make me think of the medicine though. I hate that the drug company used this name.

I like it as a name. It will always be associated with the allergy medication but that's really not horrible.

Totally different. Allegra is a legit name that happens to be the name of an allergy medicine. I think it's a beautiful name. I really want to use it one day, but DH vetoed it (the reference did bother him).
