Giving Blood

I know this has been asked before but the bump gods hate me and I can't search old post.

I am on CD3 and my feeling is it shouldn't hurt anything to give blood today at the work blood drive. Am I right wise women?

I lose a lot of blood during my periods and the last time I gave blood during AF's visit I passed out.  I won't give anymore during that time but I think it depends on the person!

I think it's fine to give during your period.  I don't know if it's fine to give while ttc.

Why do you think it's not okay?  Is it because you're on your period or for TTC reasons?

TTC reasons. I would think maybe if I was closer to implantation it could possibly be a bad idea. At this point though my body will have time to replenish the blood volume before that happens (according to American Red Cross website). I do expect to have some blood work taken at my 1 yr appointment a little over a month from now and I don't want the donation to impact that blood work either. Honestly, I don't know a lot about that blood work so i could be completely off base with that.

I had to chuckle at this because I read it while DS was blasting "Grow for Me" from Little Shop of Horrors.

 

I think it depends on what your iron levels are.  If you tend to be on the close to anemic side of things I would hesitate to give blood.  Otherwise, I don't see it as an issue.

They keep calling and emailing me to donate, but I'm slightly anemic and I've been giving a lot of labs lately so I'm just taking a break. I'm just looking for excuses though. I don't see how it would hurt, but if your real worried about it I'd call and just ask your doctor

I would think it's ok. A lot of people can't during AF or right after because their iron is too low, but they will check it and let you know.

ETA "A lot" is probably an exaggeration. "Some" would have been a more appropriate word.

TTC#2 Since July 2011
Me: 29, had two blocked tubes - left was cleared during lap&dye, right was unable to be cleared. PCOS & Stage 2 Endo. DH: 31, SA = perfect.
CLOMID: 4 rounds, 50mg + TI = BFN's.
FEMARA: 1 round = no response.
12-24-2012 : Laparoscopy, Softball sized cyst/endo/scar tissue removed.
Cycle #14 - Feb 2013 : 50mg clomid. Ovidrel Trigger. IUI on 2/14/13 = thin lining, multiple cysts.
Cycle #15 - no meds, still have cysts, no follicles. Boo!
Forced break. Continuous BCP for 6 weeks to give my jacked up ovaries a break.
Cycle #16 actively trying: May/June plan: Femara, Ovidrel Trigger, IUI! Bring iiiiit!

I actually do want to. Please see the bolded area. I will be going this afternoon. I have not had any testing and I do not want to mess anything up. However, after having multiple surgeries myself that required blood transfusions. I feel it is my duty to pay it forward. I actually care about what the ladies here have to say.

They'll do a finger stick to check your iron first. Otherwise, I don't really think there is a reason not to. A unit of blood really isn't that much and is replaced fairly quickly in a healthy person.

TTC #1 since 10/2012.

Like PPs said, they will test your iron and you have to go through a whole questionnaire first. You should be fine.
