how long would you wait?

Here's my timeline.

Jan 2012: started TTCing,  March 2012: started met 500 mg, August 2012: first +opk, September 2012: 10 days of provera, September 2012: BFP, October 2012: D&C, October 2012: metformin increase to 750 mg, December 2: first post m/c AF. Now I'm stuck...

How long would you ladies wait to see an RE? I am worried that I'm going to be stuck in the middle of a nother lenghty cycle and I really don't want to go through all that again. My OB suggested trying until March and then come back if nothing but I don't know if makes sense to go back to the OB since there isn't much that she's going to be able to do until we get KU again.

ETA: adding bold to my OP obviously doesn't help when the whole dam post is bold! ugh!

If you have been TTC for 1 year, there is no reason to wait. Check with your insurance to see if & what is covered (if anything). With your insurance, do you need a referal to see a specialist? If not, you don't need to "listen" to the OB's "wait a few months" advice.  OB's jobs are to take care of you while pregnant, not to GET you pregnant. I never even mentioned the thought of going to a RE to my OB, I just made the appt on my own once I was ready.

Myself, I would wait a few cycles of trying before I went to an RE.  That being said, I would definately call and set up and appointment because sometimes it can be a 2-3 month wait to get into the RE.  I don't think that with your past medical history it would be unreasonable to set up a consulatation and go from there.  Even if you have a consult, an RE does quite a few tests - some of which need to be done on CD 3 so it could even be a few weeks after you go before testing starts.

This may be a silly question but how am I ever going to schedule an appt on CD3 when I have no idea when that's going to be. Is it a provera, AF and then testing kind of situation?

The CD3 testing isn't normally given in the actual office. After you have your consult et al, the doc will just give you a lab slip to just go to/show up at the lab on your own when it's your CD3.

Some won't allow you to test after a Provera cycle, others will. And as was said, it's not an actual appointment for BW- you get a lab order and go on the right day.

Honestly- you should have gone a long time ago.

I called at the 9 month mark of trying. Currently on the 10 month mark and have finished all the testing, waiting results. You can do what you want, I know they say to wait a year....but it gets fustrating for sure and me being type A personality I just needed to get the ball rolling in some direction.

One thing though, check your insurance. The testing is more expensive than I thought it would be since I thought my insurance covered testing. Unless you are rolling in the dough unlike me ;-) (it isn't relatively that bad probably in the $500 range for us, but every insurance is different).

Ok, maybe not should, but could. If you are ready to move on to that step, go for it.

It's been a year, so I'd make an appointment with an RE, that is of course if you and your DH feel ready for it. If not, there's no rule that says you HAVE to go now, you can always try on your own for a while more.

I know it's not a easy decision, choose whatever makes you more comfortable. Best of luck!

GM is so smart!  But yes, you could have gone in with your history.  And like GM said, it is all if YOU are ready to take the next step.  My RE allowed CD 3 testing after a provera cycle because my cycles were so irregular also.  And like PP have said, I had a lab slip and went in to the lab on CD 3.  I called the RE's office on CD 1 and set up a time for an HSG (I think it was supposed to be CD 8-12 ish but don't quote me) and that also was a slip and I went into radiology.  I then had an appointment with the RE after my tests were done to go over results and make a plan.

I think it is time to see an RE if you are ready too (some women mentally aren't ready)

I honestly love this place!

I work for my insurance comapny so I put in a call to figure out which of the clinics I'm looking at will give the most 'bang for my buck' and I'll go from there. I'm guessing it will take awhile to get an appointment in the first place so I might as well jump on it now?

Thanks, everyone!
