Awful naps!

DS has always been a little bit of a pain with naps, we started CIO and then with colds and stuff ended up he falls asleep either on me or in the car.  But it is getting frustrating now to get him down b/c he pulls my hair and tries to bite my ear.  I get so frustrated I put him in the crib to CIO but he literally will cry for 20 minutes straight or more if I let him.  I don't want to go over 20 minutes of screaming but have no clue what to do anymore.  Luckily he is good and STTN but what ends up happening is he cries for so long it turns into a feeding time and he falls asleep that way which I am sure is not the best option.  I am sure wishful thinking but I hope he soon realizes he wants a nap and will go down easier.

Join the club! If my LO pulls those shenanigans when it's nap time I put him in his crib, tell him I love him, then leave the room. 20 min of crying isn't a lot to me, especially since your LO is a little older but that's just my opinion. If you've ruled out illness and nothing else seems wrong except typical nap fighting then I would just leave him.

When I put my LO down for a nap, he stays there for 1 hour. What he chooses to do with that time is up to him. Luckily he sleeps because he knows that's what he's supposed to do and he's tired for crying out loud! :)

Oh, also, there are plenty of times my LO falls asleep after drinking a bottle but I feel it's fine. Doesn't affect his ability to fall asleep without a bottle so I'm not worried.

We're in the same boat.  Great at night!  He sleeps from about 6:30 pm til 4:30 am, then down again until about 6, but naps?  Nope.  He used to nap if you held him and rocked him, which was inconvenient but at least he slept.  No longer.  We've tried CIO - he will cry for the entire hour.  We've tried checking in periodically to sooth - it makes him even more upset.  We ended that experiment after the second try when he got so upset after the 3rd 5 minute check-in that he threw up.  That was so, so awful.  What we're trying now is to sit right next to him in the crib and pat his arm, and then in theory, gradually minimize contact and move the chair further and further away from the crib.  He's actually started falling asleep after some crying, and will nap for about 30 minutes this way.  Not nearly long enough for a nap, but it's progress!  I'm hoping this method works since nothing else has.  Maybe something you could try?  Good luck!!
