Charlie?

What do you think of using the name Charlie as a name for a boy instead of using Charles? I really love the name Charlie. I like Charles alot too bit prefer the name Charlie. So Charlie wouldn't be a nm it would be his actual name.

I'd prefer Charles with the nickname of Charlie, but it's a small point. There are worse things like putting Charlie on a girl!

I prefer Charles with the nn Charlie. You might want to just call him Charlie but he may want another more formal option at some point.

Except that Charles is no more Charlie than Charlie is Charles.  Nicknames can work both ways IMO.

Go for it.  Like Joy said, there are worse things than giving your kid a shortened version of what most consider a formal FN.

I agree. I have a Joseph, but I have never called him anything but Joey, but I know that Joey may not make for a professional name.

I prefer charles with a nn charlie. Because that way he can choose to grow up out of the nickname some day. charlie just seems very boyish, and eventually the boy will grow up.

I LOVE Charlie but hate Charles, so I would definitely consider just Charlie as the name.  However, you just *know* people are going to assume it's short for Charles.  (Which is why Charlie is not on our name table at the moment.)

Definitely go with Charles, not just Charlie.

We go back and forth with the names and will let him decide when he's older which one he prefers.  When he's 35 and a doctor, he may rather be Charles.... don't take that option away from him.

Plus, I've lost count of how many GIRL Charlies I've run into lately.  This gives him an alternative, too, so that classmates won't tease that he has a GIRL name.  (eyeroll!)
