what's the earliest you've *heard* the HB?

I was just wondering what's the earliest you've heard the HB via doppler (at the doctor's office)?

I had always heard that it was usually 10-12 weeks but mostly closer to 12 than 10 but when I went for my appointment I managed to convince my OB to try even though he said it was unlikely he would be able to find it on the doppler (I was 9w1d) but he found the HB almost right away (188 bpm). We later went for an u/s to check on a small SCH I had in my previous u/s and the HB was pretty close to the doppler's measurement. Anyway, I was just curious. I assume it's maybe because of different qualities of equipment. Does anyone have any other thoughts about this?

ETA: Transvaginal u/s can usually detect the HB around 6 weeks but that seems to be fairly standard. I'm asking specifically about the doppler because there appears to be so much variation.

My doctor tried to find it at my first appoint at 9wk3day - she was reluctant to because she said it was still pretty early - she found it pretty easy (we saw it not heard it) - we found out a couple weeks after that through ultrasound that I am actually 10 days behind what we originally thought so I was really 8 weeks!

If you saw it was it done through an u/s? I've never had a doppler than used a visual display but have seen the HB on the u/s before.

It was on the doppler (the little hand held thing) - really we just saw the number (170 something) - it was the actual number not a line -  we didn't actually hear it - im not sure why that was- maybe it was picking up a lot of other noise (though I guess that doesn't make sense)  - it was kinda a blur lol - when she used the doppler at my last appointment at 13 weeks i definitely heard it (170 something again)

oh, okay, I see what you mean. I saw the numerical display for mine while we were listening to it. That sucks you didn't get to hear it, though :(

I went to my ultrasound at 8w6d and they picked it up almost immediately- saw it first and a second later there was the sound! The hubby and I both breathed a huge sigh of relief- it's such a weight off once you hear (or even see!) that precious sign of life.

I had an ultrasound at 5 weeks and 6 days and the baby`s heartbeat was 122 bpm. I heard it on our at home doppler at 11 weeks.

I'm 10w2d and I asked them to try yesterday, nothing. My doctor said 90% of the time you won't hear it on doppler until 11.5-12w. She wasn't willing to press hard or try for longer than a few minutes, its just way to early she said.

The nurse practitioner at my first appointment tried with no luck. (8w3d) My OB generally refuses to even try before 12w. She feels it can cause unwarranted concern.

I heard it for the first time yesterday on Doppler with my midwife (10 weeks). She was hesitant to do it, but we tried anyways. It took awhile to find it, but once we did baby let us listen for about 10 seconds before moving away :)

My doc and I tried the doppler at 9w1d. We picked it up, but it was faint. I can't wait until it is louder with the doppler...like it is with the u/s.I have another appointment tomorrow at 13w1d so hopefully we will pick it up better then.
