what's the earliest you've *heard* the HB? (XP from 1st Tri)

I was just wondering what's the earliest you've heard the HB via doppler (at the doctor's office)?

I had always heard that it was usually 10-12 weeks but mostly closer to 12 than 10 but when I went for my appointment I managed to convince my OB to try even though he said it was unlikely he would be able to find it on the doppler (I was 9w1d) but he found the HB almost right away (188 bpm). We later went for an u/s to check on a small SCH I had in my previous u/s and the HB was pretty close to the doppler's measurement. Anyway, I was just curious. I assume it's maybe because of different qualities of equipment. Does anyone have any other thoughts about this?

ETA: Transvaginal u/s can usually detect the HB around 6 weeks but that seems to be fairly standard. I'm asking specifically about the doppler because there appears to be so much variation.

We were lucky enough to hear the heartbeats at 8w2d! I agree that it depends on the equipment.

My OB's office doesn't even try until the 12 week appointment. We saw the heart beating on our 9 wk u/s, but didn't hear it.

We played around with the doppler that we ordered in the 1st tri every so often because you were supposed to be able to pick up the HB at 8+ weeks. We heard the HB at 10 weeks.

We heard the heart beat at around 8 weeks at our viability ultrasound, but didn't hear it on the Doppler at the midwives office until 12 weeks, I definitely think it was the different qualities of equipment at the two different offices.

Those are two different pieces of technology so variation is expected. I'm referring to the variation within the doppler devices (some can detect HB at 8 weeks, some not until 12).

My first pregnancy, I heard it at 8 weeks, but I had very little fat on my stomach. This time it was around 12 weeks, which they said was average.

I heard hb's with both pregnancies at 9 weeks with my at-home doppler. My OB never attempted to listen to the hb via doppler before then!

I heard my first two sons at around 10 weeks each. This time, I heard it at 9 weeks 1 day. But I might have been 10 weeks because after my N/T they pushed my dd ahead by 6 days so I'm not sure really when it was!

It depends on more than just the equipment — it depends on your weight, the baby's position, how far along you are, etc. My doctor doesn't attempt until 12 weeks. I heard it at 14w with my first, 14w with my second, and 12w with this one.

Haha, I also answered this on 1st tri because I'm a DIRTY LURKER, but here it is where it should be:

9w2d on the at-home doppler, dr didn't try on the office one until 14w (and found it easily).

7 weeks 0 days with internal u/s.  it was glorious!

Then at 13 weeks with the Doppler. The tech scared the crap out of me because she couldn't find it. The doctor had to do it later.

9w3d with ds1. 10 weeks for the other 2. Those were just our first appointments with each of them, so I have no idea how early it might have been POSSIBLE to hear with doppler. She had no trouble finding it at 9w3d.
