WWYD

DH and I are headed on a trip to Hawaii for a friend's destination wedding next week and O will likely be the first or second day of the trip. Throughout the trip, the bride has planned some great activities, one of which is hiking to the top of a volcano/watching sunrise, etc. The volcano is 10,000ft elevation and there is a warning on the national park's website that women who may be pregnant should take caution at elevations. My assumption is that higher elevations could complicate things when you are much further along, but if I am in the 2ww, do you think there is any harm in strenuous hikes at higher elevations? Has anyone heard that this can impede implantation?

I think it's an issue of getting enough oxygen. I think if you were further along you should be cautious, but IMO don't think you have anything to worry about. People that live at high elevations get pregnant and have healthy babies every day.

I am no expert on implantation, but 10,000 is not exactly extreme elevation.  You may notice yourself getting winded a bit easier if you are used to sea level, but many people live full time at 10,000+ feet and get pregnant with no problem.  I would absolutely go on the hike and just use common sense.  If you feel too winded, slow down.

That was my thought too...if I am not normally accustomed to higher elevations and were further along, it could probably be dangerous. Thanks!

Honestly, I am not an expert either, but the park's website said something about it being extreme since it's like 80 degrees at the bottom and you need a winter coat at the top, so it sounded like it was high to me. I will only be 7-8DPO or so on the day that we do the hike, so I will just take it easy if I feel weird.

I think you'll be fine. I haven't heard of elevation impeding implantation.

When I was 30 weeks pregnant, I was in a wedding in the mountains in CO (about 9k). I live at sea level. My doctor didn't have any concerns. I think the main concern for pregnancy is making sure you are hydrated.

Now that doesn't really relate to implantation, but I can't imagine it would be that bad. I would go for it.

haha thanks, I will be sure to carry a lot of water...even if you're not pregnant, I am sure it's important to stay hydrated.

HAVE FUN!!  DH and I went to Maui a couple years ago - it was one of the most beautiful places I've seen.  The paddle-boarding off one of the beaches/hotels was pretty neat too.

How cool would it be to be able to get pregnant while in Hawaii! I would say to go on the hike. If you do O on the second day of your trip, would the rest of the trip be your 2WW? So you wouldn't really be pregnant. The hike sounds like a lot of fun! I say enjoy the trip.

it would be a great story, that's for sure! Yes, the rest of the trip would be pretty much 1DPO-12DPO, so not REALLY pregnant if it happens!
