daycare momma's

LO will be starting daycare Tuesday when I return to work (so grateful Monday is MLK day and my office is closed.. One extra day for us!). Do you have any helpful hints to make our transition easy? Thank you in advance!

I breastfeed right before taking DD to daycare and I ask them not to feed her after 3:30, so I can nurse her right when we get home. I think it helps her with the transition.

Honestly the transition is harder on you than it is on them.  At that age,  I'm assuming your daycare will follow LOs schedule?  I think I wrote out a very detailed sleeping and eating schedule for them.  And for the first few days, I would call and see how he is doing.  But again, that was more for me.

So I guess the good part is that, for them, they aren't really aware enough to experience separation anxiety or whatever.  I remember being upset the first few weeks that I would just hand him off and he'd keep sleeping or not miss a beat.  Like hey kid... I'm your mom!!

But you and I both have the advantage of them starting really young.  So the majority of the adjustment will be on you and not on your LO.  Cut yourself some slack, try not to overthink it, and recognize that it gets easier after the first few weeks.

Good luck!

Bring some tissues, because you will cry... seriously. :( I would get there a little earlier than usual because drop off will probably be a little longer the first couple days since you will probably want to talk to the teacher a bit. Maybe write down a rough schedule of when LO usually eats, sleeps, etc. and let them know when he/she woke and last ate. Otherwise, it should be fine, but like I said it's normal to be a little sad.

Yeah, with how young your LO is, the main person it's going to be hard on is you. My LO was the same age going into daycare, just give them you daily sched you follow with your LO and eventually you'll get used to it all :)
