anyone feel the same?

My brain feels programmed to always pronounce names ending in "ana" differently than names ending in "anna"

to me ana is always "ah-na" and anna is prn w/the A sound like in apple

I tend to assume ah-na in all cases, at least with current name trends.  That's not to say that "anna" isn't really cute!  Just what my brain does...

I assume "anna" in all cases except Ana.  The ah-na pronunciation seems a bit pretentious.  I picture a woman saying  "No!  No!  Not anna - aaaah-na," then sipping her tea.  But, the "ahh-na" pronunciation is not prevalent around me, so that could change my perception.

Ha! This reminded me of the original 90210 and Aaaaahndrea :).

This made me LOL.  I'm one of "those" who are using the double N with the ahna sound. I'm totally out of the loop on this one.  I've just always heard the name that way. Same thing with Julianna "ahna". It's just what I was used to, and learned to like it that way.  Oh and I promise I'm not sipping my tea on the side haha...

I assume long a (ah-na) with 1 "n" and the short a (anna) with 2

I also tend to assume spanish, latin, italian, portuguese, etc backgrounds with 1 "n" -anas.

which is why I thought Annika rhymed with Danica. My first inclination was that Ah-nik-uh sounded pretentious, but it's growing on me.
