Not as pregnant as I thought? - Update

My husband and I went in last night for an ultrasound b/c I had some light spotting. We thought I was 7 weeks 4 days based on my LMP. But on the screen all we were able to see was the sac and fetal pole. My doctor said this was inconsistent with my LMP, but may be consistent with my first positive pregnancy test, which was December 31. Two and three days prior to that I had tested negative. The doctor asked us to come back for another US in 10-14 days to see the growth, but also warned us that I might MC. I also have a long cycle, usually around 35 days. Anyone else have a similar experience with a positive outcome?

 

Update: So I went back in for another TVU yesterday 1/21 because of increased bleeding. Despite the bleeding (unexplained) the doctor thought there was good growth progress over the last five days, and that the sac looked round and healthy. We're back in on the 28th for another TVU. Hoping for a heartbeat at that point!

almost everyone. you prob Ovulated later than day 14. which most people do. if i went by my LMP I would be 3 weeks ahead of what i actually am. wait until your next u/s to see if it develops. 

ETA: if you got a neg then you for sure are not as far along as you think.

 my calculations tell me you are about 5 weeks.

Yesterday was the 16th - so 16 days since positive test. The earliest someone would see a positive test is 8DPO (days past ovulation). You would also add in 14 days for the first two weeks before conception, so that would roughly put you around 38 days or 5weeks 4 days at the earliest. At 5 1/2 weeks this would be considered normal. Most of the time you will not get a heartbeat until at least 6 weeks. I would say try to relax as much as possible and don't give up! Try to stay positive! Hope everything turns out for the best!

 Edit: Also, did they check your levels? Sometimes (not always) a lack of progesterone could cause spotting.

Thanks guys, I already feel a little better. We've been watching my HCG and progesterone since Jan 1 b/c I was experiencing some spotting. Two tests per week, except this week only tested Monday b/c we were having the US Wednesday (yesterday). Progesterone was a little low as of Thursday last week, so they put me on Prometrium twice per day. Worked like a charm and progesterone levels were good as of this Monday's test, though the rate of HCG doubling had slowed somewhat.

This just happened to me!  I went to my first appointment last week and all they saw was a gestational sac.  Based on my LPM my due date should have been September 1.  The doctor said she sees people being later quite a bit and had me come back on Monday.  On Monday there was a baby with a little heartbeat measuring 6 weeks, 1 day and my EDD changed to 9/9/2013.  It sounds like it is pretty normal.

That's such good news for you! Yay! Fingers crossed for me to have the same experience. I wish my doctor would have told me that, she didn't say anything and we left feeling very scared. Thanks for sharing your experience, it helps to hear it. BTW - Love the UofM gear in your avatar pic - I was class of 2002!

This happened to me when I had my first ultrasound the doctor wasn't able to see anything.  I left the doctor's office crying.  I had my last period on Oct. 17 and went to see my doctor on December 10.  He said that I was barely pregnant and he was going to draw blood and wanted to see me the following week.  The following week I was able to see the yolk sac and the following week I had a transvagional ultrasound and I was able to see a heart beat and my baby was 6 weeks at that time.  Don't worry everything will be fine :)

I'm sure you ovulated later than CD14... like a lot of people.  How long after, that is the question.  I used to O naturally on CD19-21.  An entire week after the "norm".  If I would have conceived naturally, my Due Date based off LMP would have been an entire week off.

+#1 on 4/1/12 - m/c @ ~8w 5d
+#2 Tx cycle 4 - 5 mg Letrozole + 75iu Follsitim & Ovidrel w/ IUI on 11/13/12 - EDD 7/23/13
7 week u/s revealed THREE babies, all with heartbeats. 153bpm, 148bpm, and 136bpm
9 week u/s revealed loss of Baby B. A and C are growing on track. A measuring 9w1d with 172bpm and C measuring 9w0d with 179 bpm.
Elective sex determination u/s on 2/8 revealed... boy AND girl!

Thank you soooo much to everyone posting - it's so reassuring. I think I can actually leave work with a smile on my face. Coming in today was hard, and all of you made it better! Praying for great US results next time around - scheduled for Jan 28.

you probably ovulated late in your cycle.

according to my lmp, i am 5 weeks along but i know that can't be the case. because 2 weeks ago, on day 22 of my cycle, we started unprotected sex. i have no idea if i ovulated on day 21, 22, 23, or 24...no idea. but i got my BFP over the weekend. i think i am 4 weeks a long, not 5 weeks.
