Reintro and my 1year mark

Since its been a while since I've posted, and even then I mostly lurked, I figured I should do a reintro. I've also officially hit my one year TTC mark, and could use the support now more than ever.

My story is a little different than most... DH and I had both been married previously in our early 20's, but never had children. We met, fell in love, moved from NJ to TX leaving behind everything we knew, got married, and started TTC our first. He's 34 and I'm 31.

I was diagnosed with Hashimotos over 10 years ago, and have always had my hypothyroidism well managed. I was diagnosed with PCOS a few years later, but because I wasn't planning on having children at the time it didn't matter to me. About 9 months ago I was also diagnosed with hyperprolactinemia, but hadn't yet sought treatment.

Fast forward to this month... It's been a year. My cycles had been getting increasingly longer throughout the year and after two 90day cycles, I finally put my stubbornness aside and sought help... With a new specialist. Much to my surprise, I most likely do not have PCOS and my prolactin level isn't even near high enough to be cause for concern. That is the good news.

The bad news is that autoimmune diseases like Hashimotos can cause POF, which is premature ovarian failure. If this turns out to be my true diagnosis, the outlook is not so great. But I'm staying positive and hoping that its just a case of some wonky hormones that can be straightened out through medication.

I'm on my first cycle of Provera and am awaiting the results of lots of bloodwork and ultrasounds. My HSG is scheduled for next month. I'm trying not to be a nervous wreck about anything, but it's hard to find women to talk to about it. Apparently my friends can all get pregnant just from looking at their husbands the right way, and my mother is flat out in denial that anything is wrong.

So here I am, and that's my story. Congrats if you've gotten through it!

Yup. I was seeing a different one after my regular doctor discovered the elevated prolactin level during a routine bloodwork. I was never a big fan of that RE though, so I switched.

ETA: I'm glad I trusted my gut on that one. I'd have only been treated for the prolactin instead of trying to find the real root of my issue.

Welcome back.

Hitting the year mark is hard and people don't really understand IF unless they've been through it.  I completely understand feeling like you have no one to talk to.  My mom also wasn't super supportive when I first started IF testing almost 6 months ago, but she has come around since then.  None of my friends and family have dealt with IF.

While POF sucks, the good news is that you finally have a correct diagnosis and can start being more aggressive with your treatment.

GL and if need to vent you can PM me. You may also want to post on the TTTC board.  The ladies there are super knowlegable and generally there is less MUD to sort through.

TTC #1 since August 2011
September 2012: Start IF testing
DH (30): SA is good
Me (30): Slightly low progesterone, hostile CM, and carrier for CF
October 2012: Clomid + IUI #1 w/ OB/GYN = BFN
December 2012 - March 2013: Break while finding the right RE.
April 2013: Unmedicated IUI #2 due to hostile CM = BFN
May 2013: Clomid + Trigger + IUI #3 = BFN
June 2013: Clomid + Trigger + IUI #4

Good for you trusting your gut!

I recently switched REs as well.  My first RE's idea of treatment was unmonitored clomid.  We didn't stick around to try her treatment.

Thank you for the support. As much as I wouldn't wish IF on anyone, I'm glad to know its not just me on an island in a sea of pregnant people.

My previous RE had the Clomid discussion with me as well. When I asked about having an HSG prior to starting the medication, I was scoffed at. I took it as my cue to exit that practice and find someone who wouldn't just blindly pump me full of drugs.

Welcome back. Hopefully you don't have any egg issues. I have Hashimotos and Graves and I don't have DOR or POF, but is believed to cause my weak ovulation. Hopefully once they figure out what is going on you can get a good plan together.
