Clear Blue Digital OPK Question

I'm new to this... about to start charting and using OPKs after several months of no luck the "old fashioned" way. I've been trying to decide on Wondfo strips or the digital Clear Blue digital kit (which my doc recommended). I broke down and bought the CB Digital Ovulation Test (20 count). Here's my question - the kit comes with 20 strips, but is there a way to buy "refill" strips? I didn't see anything at Walgreen's, nor Amazon, where I bought it. Is there a way to use Wondfo strips with this Clear Blue test? Also, how often do you test for ovulation? Thanks in advance, I know a lot of you guys are pros at this, but it's still pretty foreign to me!

:)

No you can't buy refills.

The test analyzer's battery is not replaceable, they state that it's only 'reliable' for the 20 tests, and CBE only offers a full kit.

FWIW, I've been using the CBE Digi's since September of 2011 and I've found that (unless you're getting them online) Wal-Mart seems to have the best price.

I'm so glad someone started a thread specifically about these! I've been using them since Monday and had originally bought the 7-test kit. I ran out of those with testing twice a day and so bought the 20-test kit and started using that. Since then I've read online a few places that the digital analyzer piece of the kit essentially keeps a memory of your previous readings. Have I completely screwed this all up by switching to the 20-test kit mid-cycle? I got a positive on Monday morning and have gotten negatives every time since then - I want to keep testing since I don't chart but wasn't sure if I had kind of ended up messing it up with switching to the other kit....any advice/thoughts are appreciated :)

Me and DH both under 35. TTC since 6/2012.
DH: Several mild abnormalities on SA. DH started Clomid 5/2013
Me: Thyroid and Prolactin good. U/S with more b/w in 6/2013.
Referral to RE in January to get more testing.

I used the Clear Blue OPK for the first time this month as well. I started testing on CD 10 twice a day and got my first happy face on CD 12am, it stayed positive until CD 13am, negative when I tested CD13pm. I was hoping there were refills sold for this too, but I guess you have to buy a new one each time. For my cycle I think I can get it to last 2 months, so I don't mind paying $30 for it.

I never read anywhere that is stores your data, so I don't think switching to a new digital device it would change anything. I know you can't interchange the test strips with any other brand, but if you are using Clear Blue with Clear Blue, you should be fine. If you got a positive on Monday, that probably was your surge and you ovulated 12-48 hours later according to their instructions. Not everyone will get more than one positive a cycle.

The Clear Blue Fertility Monitor stores your data.  I don't believe that the Clear Blue Digital Ovulation Predictor does.

It does not store your data.  One 20 pack lasts me for several months (I've been at this a while) and other than one wonky cycle, I've had no issues with them since September of 2011.

The sticks for the Clearblue digital monitor work with the Clearblue OPK kit

[Edit for url issue]

Although I personally would not use them this way.  It's an off-label use.

Those also measure Estrogen.  They don't work properly with the CBE digital OPKs.

shecodes, when you paste from Word, you should go into the html and delete all of the code.

Personally I recommend using Wondfo strips and then confirming a postive with a CBE digi if needed.  If you do it this way one box of digis will last you awhile.

I test at least twice a day (once in the morning and once in the afternoon/evening).  I usually have a fade in pattern so if I think I am getting close to O, I will sometimes test 3 times a day.

Agree with this. Also, I use these too and I'm able to use one box of 20 for two cycles. So far, I've only been testing once a day. I used to do it the AM but spent some time on this board and learned to test later in the day. Just curious to see what time people are testing.

I only use FMU with my CBE Digi's.

If you read the CBE Digi directions, you'd see that it says that FMU is fine to use.  It's most other brands of OPK that you have to use SMU or later.

I test twice a day, around noon and then again at 10pm. I also noticed after ejecting the strips and getting close to a positive, I could see the test lines and kind of follow it myself  as I was getting close to a positive with visual confirmation.

Thank you everyone for your responses!  It's been bugging me all day and there weren't really clear answers online that I could find. I think from now on then I'll just go w/ the 20 pack since they're usually cheaper and then I can hopefully have enough to last me a couple cycles.

Even though I was really surprised with how early it was, I have to say it was ridiculously exciting to get the smiley face haha. So far I've just been BDing around the time I thought my fertile window was based on calendars and CM, but if this cycle is any indication, it looks like I've been pretty off - it's exciting to finally have an idea!

I've also been using SMU at work to test, but after hearing that the FMU has been fine in your experience, I think I might do that - it'd be so much easier than trying to discreetly sneak off at work with the holder and stick haha. So thank you for that info too - they say any time works but it's good to hear someone actually have experience with it.

Thanks, that's a great suggestion. I really don't want to buy a new CBE kit each month, but I've heard the Wondfo strips can be confusing. Off to Amazon for some Wondfos!!

I've never had a probem with the wondfo brand (blue wrapper), or formosa medical brand (not sure on the brand for that one,but green wrapper), but I did have issues with the Wanfu brand (white wrappers with blue lettering).  They never turned positive, even when my digi was positve.  Last time I ordered OPKs though, I didn't see any Wanfus listed on Amazon.

Ok, thanks for the heads up. I've seen the blue wrapper Wondfos on Amazon - 50 pack for $14. I'm gonna order those for next month. Haven't yet heard of Wanfus.

I just started using these myself yesterday, so I'm interested in these responses! Question, though - I know the instructions say not to look at the lines inside the test (the same way you're not supposed to take apart a digi HPT), but does the darkness of the lines change as you get your surge? I haven't gotten a smiley face yet, but the darkness of the test line on today's test was noticibly darker than yesterday's. I've had fade-in patterns before with Wondfos, so wondering if that possibly means I could be getting close to O?
