Has anyone else had chromosome testing?

The doctor said that we had a chance of down syndrome a 1-150 chance. So they gave me an ultrasound and said everything looked fine but since they did it around the middle of me being 16 weeks they said that the baby was not fully developed so they are having me come back in February where i'll be 20 weeks. They set us up with genetic counselling and she suggested all these things we can do. We choose to have them look at the Chromosomes because it will tell us 97% if the baby has down syndrome or not. We just would like to be prepared if it is. i am just curious if anyone else has this done. It was just a blood test so we thought i would be safer that any of the other choices. We should no in a week or two. Wish us luck!

We did Materniti21.  I'm AMA so my doctor and the genetic counselor recommended it.  And based on those results we were going to decide if we needed to do amniocentesis, since we didn't want to do it unnecessarily.  The results came back fine which gave us a peace of mind a lot earlier in the pregnancy and we decided we didn't need the amnio.

We were going to do the Materniti21 but after discussing with the nurse decided we may not need it. Quad screen came back normal and I've already had a few ultrasounds that helped determine for any chromosomal abnormalities.

We did MaterniT21, which I am guessing is the chromosomal test you are talking about. And, if you're talking about having had the NT Scan at 16ish weeks, that was too late to do it. You shouldn't do it past 13 weeks (my doctor will not do it past 12w 6d). I don't think you'd get an accurate result at 16 weeks. I say this because I don't know that you could trust any result — negative or positive — at that point.

I had a CVS test.  It's pretty invasive.

I did it get it at 13 weeks and that how i new to do something. I didn't want to do anything that would harm the baby yet. But still a little scary that there is a chance.

I did the Maternit21, too.  Easy way to get more definitive insight about the baby without the cvs or amnio - I hear that it is considered to be a likely replacement for amnio.  From the research I've done on it, it looks to be quite accurate.  I got a negative result, though I haven't seen the actual test scores yet to analyze how accurate they seem to be.  My NTS risks were low, but I did Maternit anyway because I'm older, it was mostly covered by insurance, and I wanted to know the sex earlier than the 20 week US.  Good luck to you!

There's no chance Materni21 or any of those tests (Harmony, Verifi) will replace CVS and/or Amnio.  Those blood tests screen for only the 3 trisomies, which make up less than half of genetic defects. CVS and Amnio are much more comprehensive. If the concern is ONLY Down Syndrome or one of the other trisomies, then those blood tests are enough. But they aren't a replacement for CVS and Amnio.

That actually depends on how many other disorders they add to their repertoire of testing. These tests are still new and their development is ongoing.

I don't think those companies will reach that point, but who knows. It will likely happen but it will be years, and it'll be a different type of test.  Right now the closest anyone has gotten has been the University of Washington, where researchers sequenced the entire fetal genome using nothing but mom's blood and dad's saliva. The problem is that doing that is still cost-prohibitive (they said one test would cost at least $20,000), and the results are so detailed and massive that they're not entirely useful in a diagnostic setting.
