Might be an odd question but...

Well, LO is having round 5 of teething...yikes! Along with that, I believe he is going through a growth spurt. We had weaned nighttime feedings rather successfully after sleep training and introducing solids 3xs daily, however last night DH told me he fed him a bottle at 3am because he wouldn't go back to sleep for anything and ate a full 7oz. He didn't eat any less during the day yesterday than what he usually eats 24-26oz, plus his 3 meals and a snack.

So, my question is did he eat the 7oz last night out of hunger due to growth spurt or for teething/soothing purposes. Either way, I am praying DH didn't open a can of worms by giving a MOTN feeding, but if he ate it, did he need it? IDK...kind of confused.

Any thoughts out there? Has anyone experienced teething during a growth spurt?

TIA

I would think a whole 7oz meant he was hungry. It would for DD at least. It may not cause any problems either.

We do a MOTN feeding every once in a while. He usually eats a full bottle which for him is six oz. Every time he wakes up and can't settle himself we make a bottle because it usually means he is hungry. He usually does it for a day or two and then stops and starts STTN again.

LO has been sleeping through the night since about 2.5 months (yes, we know, we have a jackpot baby). On the rare occasions she wakes up in the middle of the night and doesn't go immediately back to sleep, maybe once every 3-4 weeks, we give her a small (2 or 4 oz) bottle.

We figure what happens is that once she wakes up, she realizes she is hungry and won't go to sleep until she is not hungry. But she's not hungry enough at that time of night usually to wake her up.

The first couple of times we did it out of desperation, frantic that this would mean she'd go back to wake up for middle of the night feedings, but this has not been the case.

This. My son just went through a massive growth spurt in the last 2 weeks and woke up three nights in a row, more than once to eat, which is unheard of him for him. He ended up taking 14 ounces from bedtime until morning and you could tell he was just ravenous. A few days later, I went to put some of his one pieces on that fit him perfectly the week before and they were all noticeably shorter. I measured him and, no exaggeration, he was just over an inch bigger than when I measured him the week before (When I take his monthly pics, I always measure and weigh him, too so I can put it in his baby book). He's been sleeping through the night again ever since.

Thanks ladies. I'm just gonna roll with the punches. If he needs to eat at night for a few days, so be it! He's a growing boy and I'm not gonna sweat the idea of messing up sleep training. He goes right back to sleep after the feeding and hey, who can ask for more at this age? Am I right? Lol.

I gotta get use to the phases they go through, know when to hold em and know when to fold em. Smile

Thanks again.
