Looking "pretty" when you push?

LOL, so I was reading some random pregnancy blog and there was a post about these disposable hospital gowns. On one hand, I wouldn't mind bringing my own gown just because I think hospital ones are pretty revealing aren't they? Like open in the back? But I am pretty sure it would take a miracle to make me look pretty when I push. (I am referring to the name of the gowns, pretty pushers) I don't even look that pretty right now and I feel like a whale! Are you bringing your own gown to the hospital? This is a new idea to me.

I used the hospital's gown. It wasn't remotely revealing. It snapped down both of the sides so it was easy to open if needed, but closed right back up again. It was so easy for nursing that I just stayed in that for the two days I was in the hospital.

Quite frankly I think it's silly to care if you look "pretty" or are "revealing" when you're up on display for anyone to see you push a human out of your vagina.

I stuck with the hospital gown and will do so again.  If you're worried about being revealing before labor, say, as you walk around the hospital if you're able to do so during earlier labor stages, then bring your own "cute" robe to make sure you stay warm enough & aren't overexposed.

Now, looking "pretty" after?  For pics?  That I get.  Some people even touch up makeup.  I was too tired to care and wasn't wearing makeup to start with.  That's cool too.

I also just wore the hospital gown, but only for the first night.  After my first shower I wore my sweats and a nursing tank with a robe.

As for the rest of me looking pretty, I at least had just finished getting a shower/blow drying my hair/ doing my make up when I went in to labor.  So I had that going for me.  Didn't help my sweating, being tired and my skin looking blue afterwards, but hey, it could have been worse!

I wore the hospital gown. Trying to look pretty while pushing was the least of my concerns. There are pics of me with DS right after and I look naked. I probably wasn't but that's how little attention I was paying, lol.

Oh yes, I had almost forgotten about the constant "bottom" checking, particularly those first 24 hours.

I thought about it for pictures sake then I remembered delivering my other two and I didnt give a flying flip about what I looked like. Now if some one bought one or made one for me I would totally wear it.

I will probably end up in just a bra.  I'm not terribly modest anyway, but lately I HATE having things on my belly and can only imagine it will be worse while I'm in labor.

As for looking pretty-HA!  Just the fact that I'm thinking about being in just a bra answers that, since I'm not at all a bikini person anyway.  There's no way I'll be pretty for it-the best I can hope for is that my hair survives the ordeal and looks ok (planning on doing a french braid to keep it out of my way).  Otherwise I'm sure I will be red, sweaty, acne shining through, bloated....yeah, real picture of beauty lol!

There's no such thing as modesty or pretty in pushing, ha.  There was no sheet like you see on TV.  There WERE huge spotlights on the ceiling shining down on me.  I didn't give a frack who walked in or what I looked like or what was going on.  I just wanted the kid ouuuuut after 2 hours and 40 minutes of pushing!

I looked nekkid too, because the first pics with me & DD#1 she was doing skin-to-skin, so yeah I look nekkid.

I certainly wouldn't  buy a gown but during my 7 hour temporary stint in the hospital I wore my own clothes... which was a baggy ufc shirt and black soft shorts... although the hospital staff did ask me to where the gown so they could do dilation checks... I refused both... and kept the shorts on to help control this...

I'm sure they thought I was a PITA.... oh well

Bahaha.  Sorry, no gown could have made me look pretty after several bags of IV fluids.

Childbirth isn't pretty... sorry.  Go ahead and buy one of those, though.  I'm sure the nurses will get a kick out of it.

I have a Pretty Pusher gown. I have it in white and got it as a gift. It feels nice and has all the necessary openings for what the hospital would require.

I don't think I definitely needed it though, but I'll probably wear it just because I have it. Nothing is really going to make me feel "pretty" when I'm pushing though.

I am not bringing my own so I can look 'pretty'

I am bringing my own because the hospital I am delivering at only has the horrible tie in back gowns.   I want to do the skin-to-skin bonding with Baby boy immediately after he is born BUT I refuse to untie the damn hospital gown and strip down to naked.   I am bringing something of my own that can be unbuttoned or unzipped in front.

It probably sounds overly modest after a dozen people will be staring at my hoo-hoo for several hours....and I just pushed out a baby for a live audience of doctors/nurses.   All the same....I would rather be prepared/comfortable.

Nothing is more revealing or less pretty than childbirth. Its a big bloody gory mess with vagina and boobs everywhere.

I wore the gown and then afterwards took a shower and changed into comfy pants and a nursing tank and felt pretty normal.

You're certainly not going to be thinking about how you look while you're pushing your baby out. I certainly did not!

But if you're concerned ahead of time...the maternity/delivery gowns were probably the best I've worn. And they gave me two, so I could wear one backwards while I was walking the ward. Don't waste your money on something that doesn't really matter, if you ask me.

First of all when they put the baby on your chest it will be covered in fluid. Sometimes babies pass meconium right at birth, all over your gown. Sometimes amniotic fluid builds up behind baby and when the baby comes out things get wet. Also, post partum bleeding tends to get on the gowns. There is almost never a case where I don't have to change my pts gown after delivery.

If you want to wear a pretty gown in early labour or the day after you deliver, go for it but I wouldn't recommend it during pushing or delivery.

Some hospitals may have policies about wearing their gowns in case of emergency.

I did get a little laugh out of the "pretty pusher" gown, only because it's so ironic.  When I had DS1, my main concern was him coming out in a safe and timely manner.  I could have cared less what I was wearing.  Personally, I would never spend the money.  I did, however, change into pajama pants and a tank after getting my first shower after he was born.  I much preferred that after the birth, especially when visitors came.  To each their own I suppose, but a disposable gown to make you look "pretty" is definitely amusing!

Gosh, i would have loved to look pretty, had i not been gushing a bunch of fluids out of my vagina as a watermelon came out...both times. I don't anticipate this time being much different, although i think slapping some lip gloss half-way thru pushing might gussy me up a bit.

I have to supply my own gown since I will be in a birthing center. I bought one of those lounge shirts they had at Target. I will be giving birth in a tub, so I will be naked.

I'm considering bringing my own gown that I saw on hourglass angel, and it's black. It's really cute but for sure I will be bringing my own blanket. I always get cold with that darn epi.

Did anybody notice that the design on one of the gowns is a bunch of cosmopolitans?  Granted, I think many of us are looking forward to a drink once the baby is born, but I find a pretty pushing gown that is covered with pictures of alcohol to be pretty hilarious...

I got one after I found a cute one on eBay for $15. It's a Baby Be Mine Gownie, they're normally around $50. I thought it was cute, and a good way to make me feel a little 'prettier', though I know that'll be the last thing on my mind. I'm not going to be going the whole nine yards though- I can't imagine why anyone would want to do full on makeup/hair for labor.
