Effect our name choices can have

Ok, I'm on a roll today with article links...Guess I'm bored.

A lot of comments on the board reference what it might be like if the child has the name that looks/sounds good as a baby but would be bad for an adult.  This article looks at the research behind that idea.

http://www.livescience.com/6569-good-bad-baby-names-long-lasting-effects.html

An excerpt:

"the Bounty study shows: One-fifth of parents in the British study wished they had chosen a name that was easier to spell; 8 percent were fed up with people being unable to pronounce the child’s name; and one in 10 thought the chosen name was clever at the time, but said the novelty had worn off."

Speaking as an Ashlee in a sea of Ashley's growing up, I always liked that my name was a little different. Sure, it was a hassle to spell it at times, but my class of 100 had 8 other Ashley's, so it was nice to be stand out a bit, even if it was just one letter :).

That being said - I'm named after one of the best men I know (his middle name is Lee), so that makes me appreciate it even more. I would hate if I was stuck with the name Asheleaigh or something like that lol!

Very interesting article!

I can totally relate to the spelling issue.  We have a son named Isaac and people always double the c and s instead of the a.  It gets old.  It's not even like we went with a trendy or alternative spelling.
