Anxiety moms, I could use your help!

I was on birth control for 11 years. I didn't realize it at the time but it was the cause for the anxiety disorder I had been suffering through. I tried anti-anxiety meds, councelling, anti-depressants, meditation. I got a bit better with time but it was never truly gone. Not until I got off the pill entirely. I had my suspicions it was the culprit but the male Dr's that I had been going to had all said "No, it's not likely". The Dr who I have now is a female and when I asked her she said "It's a definite possibility".....11 years of frustration.
Anyway, now I"m pregnant for the first time. I'm about 5/6 weeks along and so far I've felt pretty good. Aside from the normal stuff like bloaty, gassy, moody, and tired, my mental state has been pretty clear. I'm worried though. I'm worried that because pregnancy knocks your hormones around that the anxiety is going to come back.
For those who are/have suffered with anxiety while pregnant, when did you notice it start to happen? It's on my mind quite a bit so I'm trying to gain a bit of insight to put my mind at ease. Any information you have to offer would be helpful!

My answer won't really help, but my anxiety came after my son passed away. I was as expected terrified during my pregnancy with Lucas. Then he was born and my anxiety skyrocketed. This time, I'm not really anxious yet.

I'm sure it's different for everyone, but here's my story...

I was diagnosed with GAD a few years ago.  I went on anti-anxiety meds and they made me miserable.  I asked my doctor to wean me off of them less than a year after I started taking them.  I decided to go without meds at all.  I've been able to deal with the anxiety pretty well.  Chamomile tea helps me.  I still have attacks every so often, but I pretty much just deal with them.

I've been pregnant for 13 weeks tomorrow.  I have been worrying like a maniac that something will go wrong - and worrying like this usually triggers attacks.  I have not had an anxiety attack at all so far.

I was pretty much the same for the last half of the 11 years of dealing with anxiety. I went off regular meds and was only taking ativan as needed and even then I'd try to fight through it. I've had maybe 2 or 3 MINOR attacks since being off the pill and thats been almost 2 years now. I just hope I can keep healthy and med free during this pregnancy. I'm hoping that knowing I have to be there and be strong for the little pod growing inside me will be enough to keep it at bay. I know when I WAS having regular attacks, one of the things that would get me through would be telling myself I had to be strong for my future children. I wanted to teach them to be strong and I could only do that by setting an example. It usually helped. I would tell myself that because I used to be scared that I would never get pregnant under the stress levels I was facing.

Here's hoping for the best. I'm exercising regularly now, eating healthy, and making sure I stay present. I'm sure there'll be times when it's hard and I slip but not if I can help it! lol!

I'm a FTM and suffer from anxiety/depression. For me, so far, things have been mostly great. I actually feel better now that I'm pregnant than I did before. Due to the nature of my medication, we've reduced the dose to hopefully prevent any ill effects on the baby. Honestly, I haven't felt withdrawals or anything. I've had a few bad days, but I rationally know that my anxiety is justified (just got classified as a high risk pregnancy and referred to MFM).

Maybe try regularly doing deep breathing exercises or progressive muscle relaxation techniques. You have to do them quite regularly, especially when you feel good so you can train your body to relax more or less on command. Its hard to do but worth it.

Hi,

I just found out I'm pregnant but I have battled horrible panic attacks, depression since my early 20's, I'm 30 now, and have been diagnosed with a general anxiety disorder. Ive been on anti depressants and have taken xanex for years for anxiety attacks. I knew we would begin tic so I spoke with my psychiatrist as she weened me off my meds. She said in her experience, b/c of all the hormones, most patients she had actually didn't have any anxiety attacks etc.

My cousin who suffers from terrible panic attacks, like I do, didn;t have any anxiety while preggers and said she had never felt better.

I hope this helps a little bit!

:)

All of this does help, actually. I know it can only go one of two ways and I'm hoping that because these are natural hormones as opposed to synthetic ones that my body recognizes the difference and has a better handle on them. I'm still very early, only 5/6 weeks along so I'm at the 'anything can happen' stage! lol! I'll just keep positive and hope for the best.

I was diagnosed with GAD when I was 16. All the meds I was taking really started messing with my body so I took myself off everything. I have learned to deal with my anxiety my taking myself out of the situation, if possible and my breathing in and out.
