Shower for a 2nd child? Yay or nay?

What's your take on it? I've heard some people throw a shower for every kid, some are only ok with it if there has been a big age gap or the 2nd child is of a different gender.

I don't care what other people do, I'm down for a party no matter what but I told my friends not to throw me a baby shower this time around. I am having a girl and already have one 3 year old girl. I just wouldn't feel right having another party.

Generally No.

However, my group of girlfriends love to celebrate stuff so we ended up crashing our pregnant friend's potluck dinner (she and her DH had us all over for a friend dinner before the baby came) and surprised her and her DH with some needed baby boy things (their first was a girl) and cupcakes.

They had no clue and it wasn't the focal point of the night.  It was barely even a sprinkle since we waited until well after dinner to bring out presents.

There was maybe 10 of us at dinner that night.

The answer is no.

If you lurk, even for a few second on this page, you'll find an entire thread dedicated to second showers.  In fact, you'll find several.

The answer is no.

Nay...in my opinion.  If I were your friend and someone threw a shower for you...I would go because I am your friend...but I would be kind of thinking to myself you were gift-grabby.  I think it would be more rude of me not to attend.  Sometimes MTB don't have an option if the shower is a surprise.  In your case...you can say no which you did.

I think according to etiquette rules a MTB can have a shower for a second (or third baby) but only people not invited to the first shower should be invited (which is almost impossible to do).

I guess I am the only one that thinks its ok. I just threw my cousin a "sprinkle" for her second child. Different genders and six years age gap between the two children. The party was only family and it was nice celebrating and hanging out with cousins. There are some many cute new things out...I didn't want her to miss out.

Here are some pictures of the sprinkle: Tea Party http://andsosayweall.blogspot.com/2013/01/little-garner-law.html

My friends do showers for every child, my family would not. It is definitely accepted by some, and apparently horrifying to others. You know your crowd, so that is who it matters to check with.

I don't have a problem with it.

Except-

1. I think it should be really small. Like at someone's house with your mom and your BFFs only. I'm talking less than 10 people.

2. There should be no registry (fine if you do one for yourself, but it should not be mentioned at all, IMO).

3. Mom should NOT be demanding it or throwing it.

I'm pregnant with #2 and one of my best friends is dying to throw me a shower since my other friend hosted my shower for DD. I told her no because I didn't want to make people feel obligated to buy gifts again even if this baby is a boy. I do want to have some sort of celebration though so we agreed on a gender reveal party instead. No one has to bring gifts it's completely up to the invitees, we didn't have a gender reveal for DD so this would be a special way to celebrate baby #2.

Other than the parents (you) the grandparents, and maybe the aunts and uncles, who cares if you are having a boy or a girl?

No where on the invite or at the party does it say "sprinkle".  That's a full blown baby shower.

And what does the genitalia of the new child have to do with anything?  Would have made a difference if it was another girl?  Would she not want the "cute new things" for girls? ::eyeroll::  If she doesn't want to miss out, then she should buy the stuff herself.  If people want to give gifts, then so be it.  But to invite everyone to a party where they are compelled to buy stuff is just not cool.

I don't know how many people your family consists of or how close you are all with each other, but my family is large and close knit as well as my husband's side of the family. We enjoy getting together for any occasion and celebrating, so you may not think it's a good idea but that's probably because your family isn't like mine. I want to celebrate every child I have, not just one, and enjoy that special moment of finding out the gender of this baby with people I love.

I will say I haaaate gender reveals. They are beyond AW.

With that said, it's technically a "sex" reveal shower, since your baby does not yet have a developed "gender."

Yep, definitely a shower.  It even said SHOWER on the invite and on the chalkboard.

2nd baby is on the way and I am having a baby shower, although it is being called a Bare Essentials baby shower luncheon, its still a baby shower.... Ooo, I'm so tacky and being gift grabby, everyone can get over it....

Well, at least you realize what people will be saying behind your back.  The best part is what it's called.  It even emphasizes that you're hitting people up for the stuff you need! KLASSIK.
