Diono Radian R120

We spent the weekend looking at car seats for my 2009 Honda Accord. There were a few that I liked (Diono Radian R120, Evenflo Triumph, Recaro PROride and I haven't seen it in person but also like the First Years True Fit from what I can find online). I have heard that the Diono is the best safety wise - and that is what really matters in the end. It costs the most though so I want to be sure. Just looking at it, it actually looks the least safe, but I am sure I am missing something. I know very little about this. It appears that the lack of curved sides and low side profile would protect the baby less in a side impact crash. I feel like my baby would be more exposed in it than in a more curved seat like the others mentioned. I know the Diono says it is good for 5 pounds, but is it really okay for an infant? It seems to sit rather straight. My daughter is 6 months. If anyone has used this seat for a younger child I would love to hear your experience.

Are there any reputable websites (other than the Diono site) where I can research safety and carseats? Thanks for all of your help!

First off all carseats pass the same safety tests. Some boast true side impact protection but I don't believe there is any standardized testing for this.

I own a evenflo triumph and a britax marathon. I really liked the diono but switched my DS to a convertible at 4 months so I wanted something he would sit deeper into. Now at 18 months I really want a diono. I think it will fit him a lot longer than the britax.

I like the evenflo ok. It's harder to install correctly and isn't as user friendly as the britax. But as a second seat for my husbands car I really likes the price. It is huge though so I would make sure all the seats you like fit correctly into your car.

There are several ladies on here who know all the ends and outs of the car seats like gimmietimmies or supercutebenz who might have more info

We switched dd from her bucket to the radian rxt at 4 mos., at that point she was about 10th percent in weight. We switched because she hated the bucket. We she love the seat. We have always gotten a nice fit and she is very comfortable in it. Our only problem is that most our family is an airplane ride away and radians are HEAVY, so we have a lighter seat for plane trips and in case her cousin comes to visit. It was too much for me to lug through the airport by myself with dd and our stuff. You may have seen the seat in forward facing mode. When set in RF mode there is a good recline.

I'm a big fan of radians as those are what my kids are in, but there are also other great options on the market now (when I was buying there were fewer options that kept a larger kid RF for a long time). The radian can be a little quirky to install and takes up a lot of room RF until a child is old enough to use the angle adjuster (have to be able to sit independently) but is a great seat otherwise and I'm a fan.

The First Years True Fit is a great seat. The only complaint I hear about it is that there is a 35 lb weight limit for RF, so an all around bigger kid might have to turn around sooner.

The graco size4me70 is supposed to be very good as well and is taller than a radian

The Clek Foonf is really cool, but very expensive and huge.

I love our Radian.  LO switched to it around 6/7 months.  He loves being able to see out the window.  He rides so much better in it than the infant seat.  He likes being able to move his arms around and not being scrunched in.

I like that he can RF up to 45lbs.  The seat fits well in my SUV and DH's corrola.  We use the angle seat adjuster in my car to help the seat sit up straighter.

Remember all seats pass the same safety tests.

What year Corolla do you have?  We have an 08 and it seems like the infant seat barely fits!  Did you start using the angle adjuster right away?
