IVF Meeting and Cost choices

Met with the RE this morning and we are a go for March/April IVF! Now we just have to decide which payment route we want to take. Our dr. offers 2 different shared risk programs.

IVF  fresh OOP- $7495 before meds - only includes one fresh cycle

IVF frozen OOP- $1246 before meds - only includes one frozen cycle

Shared Risk 1 - $12,225 before meds - includes 2 fresh and as many frozen as you can do from result of the 2 fresh. If not pregnant after that, they will refund $3000.

Shared Risk 2 - $15,995 before meds - includes 3 fresh and as many frozen as you can do from a result of the 3 fresh. If not pregnant after that, they refund all $15,995.

I think the Shared Risk are a great idea to do to plan ahead but I also want to hold on to the hope that we will get KU from the 1st attempt. And if we pay the $16,000 and do get pregnant on IVF#1 then we overpaid by $ 8000!

Ahhhh and they tell you not to stress. Hahaha :-)

Wow, those prices seem really reasonable. Do they have a high success rate for your DX and age? I have 14k in my Dec cycle not including meds and we haven't transferred yet.

For me, I would jump on the 2 or 3 cycle option in a heartbeat. I never thought I would need more than one, but here I am contemplating #3. I'm paying $13,000 oop for each cycle as no risk sharing is offered. I'm even considering trying to find a clinic that offers a package like yours even though I love my RE... Hard decision to make before your first (and hopefully only!) ivf. GL!

The clinic had a 79% pregnancy rate with fresh cycles in 2012 and a delivery rate of 63%. The RE gave told us that our chance getting KU with IVF is around 60%.

$14K is what I expected to pay for 1 IVF. I was really surprised that his prices are so much lower than what I had researched.

Ummmm, I am totally jealous of these prices.  A one cycle package is $13,000 at my RE.  A FET is almost $4000 without meds!  Do these packages include EVERYTHING except for meds (betas, ultrasounds, anesthetisa costs, etc?)?  WOW!

I'd def go with one of the shared risks. I'm currently doing one now, and I know that no one wants to think about this but one of the guarantees with my program is a pregnancy up to 28 weeks. I'd be out a lot of money right now if we hadn't done the shared risk at my clinic bc of my m/c. I know it would suck to "overpay" but how would you feel if you did in fact get KU and it wasn't viable, KWIM?

Oh, and those prices are great! Good luck with whatever you decide!

We have done 5 IUIs with injections.

Did you respond ok with a reasonable amount of stims for the IUI's? Did your doctor give you any indication of how they expect you to respond to IVF? Sometimes using injects for IUI's can give doctors good information to "predict" how well you will respond to IVF. If you are at least an average responder, and he/she is giving you a 60% chance of being KU, I'd be leaning toward the shared risk #1 package. It includes unlimited FET's so if you responded well and have frosties, you have even more chances than the 2 fresh cycles.  It's in the middle of the road as far as price so it's a decent compromise IMO.

FWIW, I have a slightly elevated FSH, used a higher dose of stims than I've seen around here to be about average, plus we have MFI and we still managed to come out with 2 frosties plus the 2 that we transferred.  But I know a ton of others aren't so lucky so it's really a toss up.

I responded really well to the Menopur. At 3 vials I actually over stimulated one month and came close another month. When I had OHSS, the nurse said "Well that's a good sign if you ever have to do IVF". I think we are leaning towards the #1 package. DH wants to ask the RE if we do package #2 and get pregnant on the 1st cycle if we can come back and do another IVF for #2 baby if we do it within the 3 year period. I think the RE is going to laugh at him but DH is crazy sometimes.

Those sound like great prices! I don't know your IF story, but for me, I'd take the 3 pre-paid Shared Risk #2. $16,000 is well worth a child-- I wouldn't feel cheated (or like you overpaid) at all!

Wow! What your clinic is charging for shared risk isn't much more than what my clinic charges for a single cycle.

We are doing shared risk but paid $26,500 - it includes 3 fresh and any frozen that are a result of those fresh cycles. Meds are all OOP and in addition to the plan cost. We are hoping it works on the first cycle (I am stimming now), but my doctor wasn't super confident given my uterus size. We are guaranteed a baby + 30 days of life or we get $18,000 back.

***sig warning***

If I may offer my thoughts:

I would go with the first shared risk if I were you.  It really isn't much different that what my clinic charges for one fresh cycle - $10,200 before meds.  And a frozen cycle was $3,300-ish (unless you don't need AH) before meds.

I have seen, here and on other boards, that many times, the first fresh cycle doesn't work out.  (It can, but it seems like a lot of times, it doesn't.)  But then one or two FETs later, it does work.

Now, I don't mean to get you down or be a "negative Nelly" or anything.  Just trying to look at it realistically. I really, really do believe the first shared risk option you have is your best bet/best bargain.  I would have jumped on board with that in a heartbeat, had my clinic offered a shared risk program.  (They didn't start until I had already had a failed fresh cycle and had begun my FET cycle.)

Best of luck to you, no matter what option you choose.

I don't know your Dx, but I would personally pick Shared Risk 1. I had a 68% chance to get preg with SET and 74% chance with DET. I ended up having a freeze all cycle because of OHSS and I didn't anticipate that happening. Also, we had 15 perfect looking embies/blasts on day 3 and we only ended up with 4 blasts. After my ER I thought I'd never have to stim again. Since we only have 4 blasts, we're stimming again if I don't get pregnant by my DET in Feb. I think the Shared Risk program provides a piece of mind, it's like buying insurance. Hopefully, you won't have to use it. :)

May I ask where your clinic is located? I'm looking for a new one, even out of state that offers a better live birth rate and a shared risk program. Tia!
