help/advice...

so this is my first time posting and i need some advice. i went off bcp back in june and started ttc. well i didn't really know about charting and all that stuff and basically we just humped it out a lot. so after i stopped the pill i had a short period that lasted about four days, then i didn't have another period until mid sept. ugh 117 days :/ i contacted my ob throughout that cycle and we just gave it time and assuming it was an effect of coming off the pill. so after that i thought my cycles might get a little more frequent/ not a 117 days, well about 50 days into that cycle with no period i went to my ob. i went in for b/w and an ultrasound which she said i had pcos (which i'm not positive that i have because i'm not overweight im 5'8 and 125 pounds, and have no excess hair and not much acne, just very long cycles) and gave me provera then clomid. i was unmonitored this cycle (i now know that thats a big no no so please don't lecture me on it i'm annoyed enough now that i know) i have an appointment with my ob friday to find out of i'm pregnant but i have a feeling i'm not, because although i had signs of ovulation such as ewcm and such i know thats not a sure sign of ovulation and i didn't chart my bbt either. my ob did give us a referral to an RE for my husband to get an SA which we will be doing later this week, but my question is should i make an appointment for me with an RE to confirm pcos and what to do next? i dont mind trying on our own with maybe just the help of provera to jumpstart my cycle if they run long. i'm just frustrated about the whole situation and it's probably not helping that everyone i know either is pregnant or recently had a baby with no effort. thanks for listening and hopefully some advice. :)

It can take a healthy couple up to a year to get pregnant. I'm glad that you aren't doing the unmonitored Clomid cycles now. Getting a SA sounds like a step in the right direction, I personally would give it more time it can take a long time for your body to get regulated after bcp, also dis they try metformin for your pcos? I am on that myself which helps my cycles alot! GL

Sorry for the errors mobile bumping

My OB did the same thing! I'm just going to use the Progesterone to jump start if no AF or O before 60 days. I'm not over weight and I have PCOS.

ETA: You can track your BBT on FertilityFriend.com. Most of the ladies here do. It's helpful and super frustrating ...at least so far... at the same time but it gives you a way to know what's going on. If you don't ovulate or get AF within 60 days call for the Provera. Also, for your sake, read the newby link at the top and there's a glossary of abbreviations link to the left. GL
ETA: lots of.... bc mobile bump hates parentheses!

What were the results of the bloodwork and ultrasounds that led to the PCOS diagnosis?

It is normal for your body to take some time to regulate after coming off hormonal birth control. There is definitely no reason for you to be taking Clomid yet so I'm glad you realized that. I would suggest signing up for Fertility Friend to start charting your BBT to see if you're ovulating. If you get to CD60 with no period or ovulation, you can call your doctor and get another prescription for Provera. If you find you have multiple annovulatory cycles it's ok to go see an RE early but otherwise you should still wait a year. Many women with PCOS still get pregnant on their own.

It sounds like you know this already but please don't do any more cycles of Clomid with your OB!

As far as I know from midwife I used to work with is there can be 2 different conditions causing polycystic ovaries.  PCOS and PCO (polycystic ovaries).  PCO is a diagnosis of basically just problems with the ovaries such as cysts and trouble ovulating.  PCOS includes problems with insulin resistence, acne, body hair and other hormonal imbalances

This website does a good job explaining that. It says,  "Not all women with PCOS have polycystic ovaries (PCO), nor do all women with ovarian cysts have PCOS; although a pelvic ultrasound is a major diagnostic tool, it is not the only one. "
