What do you consider the 1 yr mark?

DH and I decided to start trying for Baby #1 January of last year. However I have only been tracking my cycles (temping/OPKs) since my M/C in August. So I count us as trying 5 months. My OB/Gyn counts it as 1 year since we have been having unprotected sex that long. I would like to try a little longer without having to see an RE.

What do you consider to be the 1 year mark? Unprotected sex or tracking ovulation? Thoughts? Suggestions?

TIA

If your OB considers it one year now I would go with that.  But that does not mean that you can't wait a few more cycles till you're more comfortable with the thought of pursuing a RE.  I'm kind of in the same boat.  I had my last anual in October and we had a long discussion about TTC since I had been off BCP for over 3 years at that point.  She said if I wanted to pursue the next steps I was well in the right to do so.  I just haven't convinced myself it's the right thing for us yet.

You don't have to go see an RE at all if you don't want to. Try as long as you like first...after one year is just the rec because its an indication that other factors may be at play.

I would count 1year from the cycle you started charting. IMO But you could see an RE now as you have been "trying" for a year. It really is up to you.

I would say 1 year from the time you stopped preventing. But seeing an RE is your choice, and if you don't feel ready, you should wait and not feel pressured by your doctor.

Technically speaking I agree with your OBGYN but that doesn't mean you have to seek an RE referral, if you're more comfortable charting and continuing to try that is your choice.

Don't let your doctor push you into seeing an RE if you're not ready for it.

I say split the difference from January and from when you got your BFP. So if it was in July and you started since Jan I would April!

Especially if you weren't timing sex well at first.  Or if you got your BFP in May, wait until then.

We have been "trying" since October 2010, I have had months when I was all in and doing EVERYTHING I could to get KTFU and other months when I didn't do anything but have sex when we felt like it.  I still can not make the decision to move forward with other treatments.  So I totally understand what you are feeling

I'm pretty sure someone asked a similar question yesterday - you could go back & see what they said, but the general consensus was to split the difference (half way between when you started charting & the OB's "1 year" mark.

Obviously, that's only if your charts don't show a problem.

Also, if you're not ready for treatment, you're fully allowed to wait as long as you like. It's your body, after all :)

Yep.  Its one thing to be off BCP for X#years trying every cycle.  It's another to be off and like you said, some months hit it hard and others not so much.  That's us too :)

That's exactly where we were this time last year. One month all in and the next sort of passive about it. It wasn't until we got our BFP in August and subsequently M/C that we thought it would be a good time to REALLY try. I am hopelessly optomistic and we are both still pretty young. It just doesn't seem like seeing an RE is the right move for us right now.

However long you've been having unprotected sex in hopes of conceiving. You don't need to run to an re right away.. I didn't..

THIS.  If you want to try a few more months before going to see a RE I think you should.

One year from when you started having unprotected sex and you were actively trying. I don't think you have to wait until the year mark from when you started charting, because I am sure you still got some bedroom time in during fw without charting as well.

That is how I am counting it at least! GL

You do not have to see an RE if you're not ready.

Look at me, I've never had a BFP, we started in June of 2011, we have not yet gone for initial testing.

Do I think we're going to get pregnant on our own?  No.  I plan to call in the next month, though.

It's a hard emotional decision to make sometimes.  At least it has been for me.  I just can't bring myself to cross that bridge just yet.  Best wishes for you moving forward next month!!
