XP: 38 Week Apt and Question

I just had my 38 week apt this morning and I was 100 effaced but not dilated at all. Last week I was 80 effaced.  Dr.  is worried I may not dilate on my own because of a LEEP procedure I had 5 years ago.  I guess the scar tissue on the cervix can prevent you from dilating.  In that case I would have to have a c-section. :(  My friend suggested acupuncture  to help me dilate before next week.  Has anyone tried this with success??? This is my first so I have no clue if its a good idea.  thx

You're only 38 weeks. You have plenty of time to dilate.

Out of curiosity? What's your doctors c-section rate?

I've actually never heard of LEEP scar tissue leading to dilation issues and if I were you I'd start researching it- especially if you don't want a c/s.

I had a LEEP done about 7 years ago and had no problems dilating with DD. I know that's only anecdotal, though.

You don't need to be dilated now, or before next week. You can safely be pregnant for 42 weeks, as long as you and LO are healthy. Don't rush things, they usually happen when LO is ready. And, you being effaced is a positive sign.

I had scar tissue that prevented me from dilating but no one thought it would be an issue prior to labor.  I was not induced with DD, my water broke and I started having contractions.  I was stuck at a 3 cm forever with DD.  This led to me getting an epi when I had planned to go epi free.  Once the epi was in place and after an internal exam, the scar tissue kind of just popped free and I was able to dilate and deliver.

Just sayin - the scar tissue may not be an issue.

I have 2 friends with scar tissue from LEEPs who delivered vaginally. Sometimes the doctor had to break up the scar tissue to allow dilation, but csections were never required due to that issue. Don't let them talk you into a csection because of this alone. Read up on it and you can request other options from your doctor.

this...

plus as PP mentioned 38 weeks is really early to expect that you HAVE to be dilated...
