NTTGPR: Really People?

I'm sure many of you have seen on facebook the pictures of people holding a sign  "If I/we get [X Amount of] likes, [family member name here] says we can get a [puppy/bunny/etc]."

Ok, it sickens me to think that people are basing decisions of whether or not to add a pet to their home based on how many hits they can get on a picture, but one I saw today takes the cake. It's a man holding a sign that says "If we get [I forget number] likes, my wife says we can have a baby. I really want to start a family!". Are you flipping kidding me? What kind of a reasoning is that to base starting a family on?

I don't think i side eye it as much as you. If the parents are already set on getting a dog, havent told the kids and are doing it for fun - who cares? I would assume (maybe wrong to do so) that people are not basing having a child on likes on FB and are doing it more in jest and to get a rise out of people. Mission accomplished.

I think you are taking it too seriously.

I saw that one, but I thought it said that the wife said they could "talk about having a baby".    I remember thinking "Yeah, get your million likes and she still says no. HA!"

I base all my important life decisions off how many likes I can get on facebook :P

So the majority of those types of posts are actually people who are just looking to get a TON of likes/shares/comments so they can turn around and sell the page to a third party who can use all of that "popularity" to sell a product to people. The third party will change the name/content of the page and will instantly have hundreds of thousands of followers. Those posts are rarely actually true. They are just building a base of popularity.

Oh, yeah, me too. I mean, I'm sure there are many that are jokes and just for fun, but how many people are stupid enough to think "Hey, that's a good idea" and do it with the intent of actually basing their decision on it.

I feel like, if they are at that point (posting to FB) then they've already made up their minds as to what they are going to do.

If they truly are using FB as the deciding factor then yeah, duh, they are stupid.

While I have no kids yet, ditto this. I don't think I want pictures of my kid publicly circulating in cyber space. Sure, a few pictures on my own page with strict privacy settings for friends and family, but no kid needs to have their picture go viral. I just don't think it does them any good to be overly involved / invested in the cyber world.
