Expired infant carriers?

How do you know the expiration dates on these things?  The two I have just have the manufacture date.  Is it a specific time - 5 years?

Your instruction manual should tell you how long the seat is good for. If not, google will for sure be your friend.

Definitely don't have the manuals for these things!  I have DH out shopping for a new carrier and bases as we speak.

Guess I'm better safe than sorry!!!

When you say infant carriers, you are talking about Car seats, right? They usually expire after 6 years, but it is dependent on the brand and make, etc. I would find all the information you can on the seat itself and then either call the manufacturer or look it up on their website.

Why don't you have the manuals? Because they're lost and the seats are from an older child? If it is because the seats are second hand, don't waste your time and just buy a new car seat, it isn't safe to use second hand seats.

One was purchased by my mother-in-law for her niece.  It was kept at mi's home but rarely used.  The date on it is 5 years ago.

My other one was the same situation- my mom's friend bought it for her granddaughter for when she came to visit.  They used it like 4 times and it just sat in her garage.  This was about 3 years ago.

I have another that a friend gave me that is 8 years old, so that one is definitely expired.

And the one from our 3 year old son somehow disappeared.

DH is home now with the new set up.  :)

Sounds like the best case scenario! Glad you got it figured out. The One that is 3 year's old probably still has at least 2 years left on it, but you would need to be 100% confident that it had been cared for correctly and not been in any accidents.

I know for a fact that NONE have been in any accidents, but I am not confident about the dates.  I feel better knowing I have a brand new one.

We needed some other stuff too, so I just sent DH out with a list.  He must've called me like 700 times to ask questions lol. And then at one point my son left his most prized possession - his penguin pillow pet, which has been dubbed Dirty Penguin - in the store.  They thought it was gone and both DH and DS melted down!!  THANK GOD they found it a few aisles over!!!!!
