MI Question

We are in the beginning stages of our MI journey. I've had my tests and they have been fine (waiting for HSG results today), and my husband has low count (.2 to half a million) and low motility (38%). He is seeing a urologist next week.

My question is, should I bother with ovulation testing daily and religiously BD on those days anymore? It's been a year of all of that and I feel worn out from it. However if there is still a decent chance I am of course all for it! My husband is like "why bother, it's almost impossible"... but is it really? I mean of course anything has a chance... The radiologist told me twice that my chances are 25% better the month of and the month after the HSG. But what if the problem is MI?

Any experience or ideas on this?  Thanks! :)

After I got our MFI diagnosis I did stop temping. It's a little different because we're Azoo, but after DH's surgery there were a few months the doctor suggested we try naturally until all the final results were in.   Like you, I had already been charting for a year at that point.  My cycles are fairly regular and I know when I'm most likely to ovulate.  During those cycles we would have sex in the general window, but didn't kill ourselves over it.  It was kind of liberating because we started having sex for fun again, instead of focusing on an end goal.

Your chances are better after an HSG if there was some sort of minor blockage.  It's not going to make a difference with MFI.  I'm going to give your radiologist the benefit of the doubt and assume they don't know about your MFI (otherwise s/he is a twit).

Keep track of your cycles in general (length of time, start/stop).  If there's a major change go back to temping.  Otherwise enjoy one of the few perks of infertility (NOT temping!)

Hi, I'm sorry you're dealing with MFI, sometimes it can be really overwelming.

I don't know what the natural pregnancy rates are for all the different kinds and degrees of MFI. But, while trying to keep it natural, I never missed the chance of BD when I knew I was ovulating. Except in some particular cases of severe MFI, where you really can't hope for a miracle, nobody can give you a 0% chance of ever getting pregnant (if there's nothing wrong with you, that is). I know I'm probably more likely to be hit by lightning than by getting preg on my own, but I won't let that stop me from hoping.

I don't know if you ovulate regularly or not, but I just looked for EWCM during natural cycles. I stopped using OPKs a while ago, because I'm more or less regular and get O symptoms.

Good luck! I hope you get some answers!

I am sorry you are on this journey! Honestly I tempted for over a year faithfully, and RE said we know you ovulate so don't have to. After our severe MFI, we were given a small % that it would happen on our own, but there is ALWAYS a chance it could. HAving an HSG made no difference in my case as you can see lol. We were actually told to only have sex the day before I ovulated, and that was it. It all depends on what dr. tells you and severity of his MI.

Bottom line is Have sex during your ovulation, enjoy each other, IF and treatment can be daunting on a couple. If it happens that you get KU before treatment plan is set in place great, but enjoy each other like I said before the dr. gets involved either way. GL and keep us posted. IF you ever have questions, there are many of us that deal with MFI, and there is a check in. <3

It was always extremely stressful for DH around ovulation. Prior to IVF, I would secretly test and lead my DH to believe the BD was just for fun. =) If you want to try, don't give up. His sperm can't be all bad. GL

J&D2007:
After years of ttc, I got pregnant a few weeks after my hsg: just saying:

It definitely does happen.  But results aren't so great with MFI.  If you're only working with 6 lame sperm swimming in circles then it doesn't matter if you scrub your tubes out with bleach and roll out a red carpet, it just isn't happening.  I know doctors throw the post-HSG pregnancy around; I'd like to see some actual research that includes data with correlation to different IF diagnoses.

Not that I'm saying OP has 6 drunken sperm.  It sounds like guys do have something useful to work with.
