What do I need?

Bassinet or rock and play or pack and play. What do moms do?

We used a cradle for the first 2 months. (It was mine when I was a baby and we refinished it to look like new) Then she moved to the crib. I  wouldnt waste money a r bassinet, cradle or rock and play. We also have a pack n play. In all honesty, I would skip the bassinet and rock n play. Get a pack and play that has the bassinet insert. It saves money and space. Then as you LO outgrows the need for the bassinet, its stores up super small, and the LO has the pack n play to play/nap in. My LO plays in hers so if she topples over while sitting, its cusioned, unlike our hardwood floor. And my nephew is almost 2 and uses his for a ball pit. They just bought ballpit balls from toys r us, and he will play in there for hours! and since its deep the balls dont fly out, and its see through and breathable so his parents love it too!

IMHO, the pack n play (with bassinet insert) is the best bang for your buck! Baby stuff is so expensive, bulky, and they ourtgrow it so fast!

I have all 3. They all served different purposes. I used the bassinet in our room at night. The rock n play was kept mainly downstairs for naps and so DD1 could interact/play with DD2. The pack n play we used for travel. We just stopped using the pack n play when DD2 was around 2 years.

We only got a pack and play and haven't even used it yet. LO is 6 months and we put him in the crib day one. He naps in our arms, or his crib, or his swing or bouncy seat. I was afraid I'd have to transition him from the rock n play.

We have a rock and play and a cheap pack and play.

My son slept in the rock and play for the first three months.  Sleeping on an incline like that helped significantly with his reflux.  He transitioned to his crib at 3 months with no problem.

We just bought a simple pack and play for travel.  I didn't see any need for all of the bells and whistles.

I have a pack and play, that I barely used. Its one of the things I wish we had just skipped on. I think we had used it once for vacation and that was it. DD was not a fan in the least bit of being in it.

Well those all serve different purposes.

I wouldn't buy a bassinet though. We have a family cradle from when DH was a baby that is still in very good condition.  So we used that in our room. I had the swing in the living area for a place to set him down when we were eating or something.

I have a 2 story house now, so I will buy a PnP for downstairs when #2 comes along.

If I were you I would get a PnP for naps or your room (if you are co sleeping) and a swing or RnP.

We had all three and really only used the RNP.  We got a cheap pnp and have not used it at all except to collect junk. (We have a 3 level home and thought it would be used when we hung out in the basement - didn't happen).  We had the bassinet before the RNP and used it for about a week until we found out dd had bad reflux.  After that we got the RNP.  It was awesome! The incline is great for reflux. It is lightweight so you can easily carry it wherever you are.  We even took it to friend's houses when we knew we would be out during nap time.  DD slept in it every night from then until 4 mos when she started daycare.  She had absolutely no problem going from the incline to sleeping flat in her crib.  The RNP is always the first thing I tell people to buy.  Oh and you didn't ask but we also had a swing and used it a lot.

We have a bassinet and a pack and play.  Both of which were useless for sleeping since DS would not sleep flat for the first 5 months.  I'm getting a rock and play when we have another kid.
