Routine and schedule difference

Ok, a lot of people are bashing on routine-setting at this age. Here are the differences as I understand it:

Routine:

Same things in the same order. Varies slightly depending on needs of that day.

Schedule:

Specific times set to perform the above routine.

I see absolutely nothing wrong with trying to start a routine whenever you feel it possible with your LO, but it's the scheduling thing I think is what you should expect to not happen until they're a little older.

Just my opinion.

Yup, there is a big difference between knowing the general times of naps and feeding, than saying 'This is nap time' or 'This is feeding time'. Little babies don't work that way.

I think some people forget about the bolded part, and expect their 4 week old baby to eat, sleep, poop in the same way every single day. I really think some people think that. That's what I don't get, and don't like the idea of setting even a routine for a baby, when most likely in a few months they'll create their own, anyway.

On a side note....this reminds me of (I think it was) MandiJ's sex vs. gender posts.

Good point. I get so irritated when people complain about their baby's schedule- get over it and be patient. But I totally get wanting a routine, because that's how I am too. I do basically the same things everyday, but not always in the same order or at the exact same time.

lol. It probably was MandJ. Great minds, man. ;) I am fully aware that people are not going to read this, and that they will continue to use the incorrect word, or disagree with me completely. That is ok. At least I got it off of my chest! ;)

Probably me, and yup. Semantics and all that cr@p. There are different words for a reason. USE THE CORRECT ONE! (And that is all my rant ever was about. Correct word choice.)

Oh and yeah. I agree with your OP.

AngelSmitty: This reminds me of something my college Human Sexuality professor used to say in class. "Sex is between the legs. Gender is between the ears."
