Who has to continue working after maternity leave?

Many of my friends who are new mommies get to be stay-at-home moms.  For me, however, I have to continue working to bring in income and I own my own business - therefore, I do not technically get maternity leave but I do plan to take some time away.  Who has to continue working after maternity leave?

I'll be working after my maternity leave....luckily, my mom watches my daughter so she will watch the new baby too.

I have a four year old daughter and am pregnant with my second daughter.  I work full time and will be returning to work after maternity leave.  I'm the breadwinner in my house so it's back to work for me.  But honestly, i am blessed in that i have great childcare and love what i do.  It certainly isnt easy but i feel like i get the best of both worlds.  Now dont get me wrong...if money wasnt an issue of course i would LOVE to stay home with my babies.  But my current situation is a good fit for me.  :)  Good luck to you!

I don't have to, but I want to. I mean, don't get me wrong, our style of living would drastically change if either of us stayed home, but I enjoy working. So, for us, it's the best decision for our family. I think I'll be a better parent and enjoy our time together even more, but everyone is different.

I'll be going back to work voluntarily after maternity leave. The "stay at home" experiment we did with our son years ago didn't work - I really love my career and don't want to give it up. I will cut back, but not leave entirely.

I'll be back to work after leave. While I would love to be a SAHM, DH would have to make a pretty penny in order for us to do this. I love the extras in life too much to stay home.

I would love to be a stay at home mom, but we just cannot afford it! We have more than enough money to feel comfortable now, but my job is only a one year contact with a school system so I will not have a well paying job next school year (most likely)! We are saving a ton of money right now so I can take 12 weeks off when the baby is born but after that, we both have to work!

I will return to work after about 10 weeks leave.  I love my career and am not ready to give it up.  However, we are planning for me to stay home when we have our second child in a few years.

I'm going to be a SAHM after my maternity leave is over.  We're lucky enough where we won't suffer financially if I stay at home.  We've calculated what we would end up paying for quality daycare and have decided it makes more since for me to stay home. Also, before we even considered having children we agreed that someone (fully knowing that would be me) should stay home.

I'd like to be my child's primary caregiver, but I will still have to work, at the minimum, part-time. So I'll be back to work after a few months.

I decided to stayed home with my DD. By the time she was 4/5 months I decided it wasn't for me and starting looking for a job. I will be returning to work after #2 is born.

I will return to work after leave.  I only had 3 full weeks off with DD and then came back 3 days a week for 3 weeks, and then full time after that.  Our paid leave is only what PTO hours you have left, so I saved my PTO for that reason.  This go around, I'll have 4 weeks of PTO but don't feel it's smart of me to use it all, for I'll need it if kids are sick or for doc appointments.  Yes, my employer would give me 6 weeks but I'd have to take whatever is left over unpaid and we can't afford that.  Gotta make the mortgage payment!  FYI:  on the 3 days a week I returned to to work, DD was only 3 weeks old, so my Mom, Dad, and DH alternated watching her and took time off to do so.  I am grateful for my family!

I don't have to, I want to.  My personality just would not jive with staying at home.  I give those a lot of credit that can manage it.

I'll be taking the 6 weeks unpaid & hope to maybe get 8. I was a nanny for 13 years & I hate thinking about putting my own little one in daycare, but unfortunately we can't afford for me to stay home!!! I'd love more then anything to find a money tree & become a SAHM!!

I will probably take all the leave that I can PAID (not the full FMLA) and then will return to work, with fulltime pay, but working almost 30 hours a week from home and the remaining 10 or so in the office... I do medical billing and financials for my company, something I can do remotely..

So, are you asking who is not going to quit their job and be a SAHM? Kind of a weird way to phrase that. I work, I will work after the next baby is born. I work because I have to and also because I want to.

Please forgive my typos! I'm not as dumb as my iphone would like you to believe :)

This will be the first of my three kids that I will be returning to work.  I have to, and I kinda want to.  I love my job.  It's hard for me to even think about right now, but I know in the end, it will be what is best for our finances,

I will return to work after a 12-week leave. Actually, I'm hoping to have time to interview for a new job while on leave because I don't love the one I have. We'll see how that goes.

This.  I did switch to part-time (4 days per week) after I had DS and will continue that schedule after this baby is born.

I'm going back to work after taking 12 weeks off. I'm sure it will be difficult initially to be away from the baby, but I really like my job and I taking off 4-5 years before the baby goes to school would put me behind on my long term career goals. I'll just retire early and take care of my grandbabies, inshallah!

I may not go back to work, but not because I'll be a SAHM. It's because I have to finish nursing school (which is a full time job in itself!!...minus the pay.)

Working, school, AND a new baby might be a bit overwhelming for me. I'm still playing it all by ear.

I'm taking off 12 weeks and then going back. I would be bored out of my mind staying home all day, even if it is taking care of something I love.  I love my job and its challenges.
