7 Weeks and FF. How much?

DS is 7 weeks and it seems as though I may need to increase his formula amount.  He's currently taking 8 3oz feedings a day and was on a 3 hour schedule.  All of a sudden he's sleeping less and waking up for 2-2.5 hour feedings frequently.  I am wondering if I need to increase his amount.

I know it varies, but how much are you guys giving your LOs?

Thanks!

Our LO is 8 weeks, he is at 5.5oz

I should add - we feed on demand not on a schedule. Sometimes it's every 3 hours sometime's he'll go 5 1/2-6 hrs (overnight).

At that age we were offering 4oz and feeding on demand. By 2 months he was taking 5 oz at some feedings but not all.

Seems like a lot of formula to me. My son is 4.5 mos and we just bumped him to 7 ounces. When he was 7 weeks he was taking 3.5-4 oz bottles.

How much does your LO weigh? A good estimate is to take his weight and multiply it by 2 or 2.5. That is about how many ounces your LO should be taking in 24 hours. So if he is 10lbs, he should be taking about 20-25 ounces.

But, if your LO is handling it well and not barfing any of it up, I guess he needs it.

EDIT: I am a total idiot. My mind switched the numbers around and I though you said you fed him 8oz 3 times a day. LOL I was like "Woahhh..."

I would try and bump him up a half ounce and see how he does.

Ah ha! Thank you. :) I am thinking that if I feed more per feeding he might go a little longer between feedings again. I'm very conscious about over doing it. He was born at 8 lbs 7oz and is probably around 10lbs now. I feed him on demand but am only offering 3 oz at each feeding. He sucks it all down always and almost never spits up.

We'll try more per feeding and see if the time between bottles goes back up

Good luck! FWIW my pedi said you can't really overfed a baby this young. They stop when they are full or end up spitting it back up.
Some people go by the "don't fed over 32oz in 24hrs" rule, but some babies need more, some less. :)

My LO is 8 weeks and she eats 4.5 to 5.5 oz every 3 to 4 hours. She weighed 8.7 when born and is now 11.10.

I have read if your LO empties the bottle at feeding then you should offer more. It's always good to have a little leftover when they are done eating and then you know they are satisfied.

DC ICSI Momma:

My pedi always told me that once the baby is finishing a bottle, add another ounce to offer and increase accordingly as they grow. growth spurts get confusing and sometimes cuts down on time between feedings. Lucky for me, my kids have been super eaters and sleepers... My 2 week old is already taking 3-4oz every 3-5 hours without any spit up or gas issues. GL!
