hypothyrroidism/no meds

So I found out I was expecting number 4 back in December. I called to make my first prenatal appt but I couldn't get in til much much later. I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism after a miscarriage thought to have possibly been molar pregnancy. Anyway I tried to get meds ASAP but office lady didn't seem to care? Said she'd leave message for nurse. Never heard back. Expected a bump by now. Albeit only noticible to me only while laying down but nothing. Worried about another missed miscarriage. Any advice/ similar experience? ???

hypothyroidism needs to be treated, especially during pregnancy.  My dosage went up steadily all during my pregnancy.  You need to get in for a blood test and meds as soon as possible.  It doesn't need to be done by an OB, your regular doctor can do it.  If you were diagnosed why didn't they give you medication originally?  That doesn't really make any sense.

Try calling an endocrinologist office. I work for one and we see pregnant woman quite often for thyroid problems. It is important for you to be on medication to treat it while you are pregnant. You can also try calling your OB office again and pushing the issue, because it is important for your hypothyroidism to be controlled while pregnant. Good luck.

I was on meds during my subsequent pregnancy with my now 20 month old daughter. But, I never went back to work. I lost my insurance and therefore no more meds.

generic levothyroxin off insurance for 100 pills should cost less than $20. Not having insurance isn't a reason to not take required meds.  Ask for your RX to be called in for 100 or 90 pills and ask the pharmacist if there is a discount in bulk.  I used to buy mine off insurance even though I had prescription coverage because it was so much cheaper.

I can't go back and change the fact that I didn't stock up. I lost my insurance so they wouldn't fill my rx after having my daughter without blood test. I couldn't afford it. Now my Dr or his nurse wont call it in before I'm seen. I have been calling and bugging them about it. I even offered to come in any time and get the blood work only. Nothing. There's a small pool of drs here and mostly I wanted to know if I will miscarry or what someone else has gone through. Chastising me about not taking the meds sooner wasn't the response I thought I'd get.

I have a mild case of hypothyroidism but I had a miscarriage when I first got married and developed a bloot clot from the placenta. Not sure if the thyroid had anything to do with that loss. No one even hinted that my thyroid level in the mid 5 range would impact fertility so I never got meds and then when I read articles about the importance of managing thyroid during pregnancy and when TTC, I freaked out. I thought I had done everything I needed to get ready for this pregnancy and found out I had to be put on a large dose of meds the day I found out I was pregnant. My PCP has been doing all of my testing. If I hadn't pushed, no one would be that worried about it. Your OB should be understanding but in their defense, putting someone on meds with no recent bloodwork is a liability for them. My mom goes in and just has labs done all the time. Just call around until you find someone who will let you do a basic tsh test. We have sliding scale clinics in Atlanta. That might be an option for you depending on where you live. A lot of people have healthy pregnancies with thyroid issues but you have to get it under control as early as 5 weeks to be confident. Best wishes. I am awaiting hcg results tomorrow and am hoping for a healthy pregnancy even with my last minute dash for meds.
