Excessive spitting?

LO seems to spit up an excessive amount even though we burp him after eating. Any suggestions on how to get LO to spit up less? Or is this normal? TIA!

From what my Pedi told us, it is normal unless baby seems on pain and is gaining weight. My son spits up a lot too but is definately gaining weight so we just got used to using receiving blankets as burp cloths and always having a change of clothes with us. But as always, if you are worried ask your doctor.

DD1 spit up a ton... Only things that helped a little were making sure she was sitting upright while eating, stopping to burp frequently, and then keeping her upright for 20min after feedings. I also elevated one side of her crib to keep her head higher. No real cure. GL!

Likely normal unless it's a ton.

Feed in smaller amounts.  Give him an ounce, burp, and let him rest for a few minutes, then continue feeding.

This. Try burping multiple times. Some babies are just spitters, mine included. He still does at 10 months old but not nearly as much as he used to. Buy a lot of bibs :)

My LO just turned 16 weeks on Tuesday & we saw a pediatric GI specialist for her excessive spitting up... it has gotten so bad that our regular dr gave us a referral.  We go tomorrow for an upper GI x-ray and then the dr will see what is going on... she is gaining weight but I think she could be gaining more because she spits so much up.  We changed formula and now are using Enfamil Nutramigen AA Lipil which I can't even buy in the stores- it has to be ordered online & is $40 for 14.4 oz., we burp every 1 1/2 oz.- 2 oz and I hold her up for at least 20 min after feeding.  She spits up for hours after the feedings & it is sometimes just clear liquid w/o formula... she is not in pain because she takes reflux medicine twice a day.  Its just heartbreaking that she has to go through this everyday, I am hoping the dr will be able to figure out what is going on with her tummy.
