Swaddling/Swaddlers

Those of you that swaddle, do you prefer large blankets or do you use the swaddlers with the bells and whistles? Trying to finish my registry and unsure which route to go, and which brand to use if the swaddlers are worth it.

Thanks for any help! :-)

As a newborn, we preferred the Aden + Anais muslin boutique swaddle blankets. (DD was 5 lbs at birth). They were the perfect size for getting a good, tight, wrap.  We found the smaller blankets to be difficult to keep the swaddle tight.

As she got larger we started to prefer the Summer Infant Swaddle me which were really easy, even for visiting grandparents.  They were nice too because we could use the holes to swaddle dd in her carseat if we were going out to dinner or something when dd should be sleeping.

After dd started to roll, we moved to the A+A sleep sacks and still use them (we are about to go to our 3rd size).

Although we only used the A+A blankets for swaddling for about 2 mos, we used them for lots of other purposes, and still do.  I frequently recommend them to friends.

We used the Halo Sleepsack swaddles with DS2, and loved them!  We used the SwaddleMe's with DS1, but we upgraded with DS2 and they were so much better.  My husband was pretty good at getting a tight swaddle, but I wasn't, especially in the middle of the night.  They are safer too.

Ditto, though we only used them for 3 or 4 weeks for swaddling.  The SwaddleMe and Halo Swaddle Sleep Sack were too big when she was born (6 lbs 11 oz, 18 in). We didn't swaddle her in the A&A blankets at night because she could get out of them, but they were still useful for calming her down and getting her arms out of the way for feeding.  They definitely worked better than the other blankets we tried.

By the time she was a month old the SwaddleMe was too small/short and she hated having her legs bound tightly, so never actually used them.  we went with the Halo and they have been awesome.  I like that they are roomy in the legs and that if she gets her arms out, there isn't a bunch of fabric near her face.  We are transitioning away from the swaddle now and it's nice to be able to easily swaddle with one arm out and then with no arms, then move to the regular sleep sacks.

We loved the Miracle Blanket. It was the only thing he couldn't break out of.

We used Halo swaddle sleep sacks with #1 and will probably use them again with #2. #1 STTN at 6 weeks. I found the cotton ones didn't work as well as the fleece and #2 is due in July so we will have to use the cotton. I am also interested in the woombie but will probably stick with what we know works.

We liked the Halo Swaddle Sleepsacks for swaddling (which we only did for the first 4-6 weeks) but I LOVE the aden + anais swaddle blankets for everything. We still use one for something every day.

Summer Infant also makes a Swaddle Pod that zips up and claims to be great for a newborn; I have one of those, 2 cotton swaddles, 1 fleece swaddle all in size small. I have two Halo sleep sacks in Medium, and I plan on buying the Aden+Anais blankets as well. I figure somewhere along the way we will find something that works. With DD we couldn't swaddle her with  blankets but I'm thinking it was because they weren't big enough. Once we could use the Summer swaddles she lived in those.

Thank you ladies! I already have some homemade blankies big enough for swaddling, so I went with a few Summer Infant swaddlers and some Halo sacks in larger sizes. Hopefully those will work for us! Really appreciate the help. :-)

This. We used the MB with both girls until they started rolling over. If you have this, there is no need for any other swaddling product.

Swaddling blankets never worked for DS, he is a houdini.  Even with the super-tight swaddling the nurses did in the hospital, he broke out of them right away.

We initially used Summer Infant Swaddlemes.  They work well BUT DS grew out of them quickly - by one month.  DS was 11lb at 1 month and even though the Swaddlemes are "up to 14lb", they got too small quickly.

We then switched to Halo swaddle sleepsacks (S size 3-6mo) for DS.  At first they were a bit big but DS grew quickly was 14lb by 2 month.  The S size fits him very well now.

DS is still able to get his arms out of the swaddlemes and Halos some nights.  I love that the Halo has arms in/arms out option.  We just started leaving DS's R arm out of the Halo at night.

We used receiving blankets and A&A blankets and folded them like in this video:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5K4VdZxwsu4&list=FL0FTzKP20guRsvEzj78u_2A

We did it from when she was a newborn until she was about 5m old when we broke her from the swaddle.  That was when she was strong enough to break out herself.  Before that, that approach was magic.

ETA:  This approach is the same thing as the Miracle Blanket pretty much--except you aren't buying a special item to do it.  We tried the Woobie and it was an epic fail but I do know others who loved it.

I totally forgot about the Woombie and Swaddle pod.  Both were too small for K.  She is tall, though.

I found the aden and anais blankets to be the best and worth the price.  I also loved the miracle blanket but they outgrow that @ 14lbs I think.

With DD I preferred SwaddleMes, but that's because I didn't know about the Miracle Blanket. Started with SwaddleMes for DS but then discovered the MB and LOVED it!
