breasts NOT leaking??

so with DD I started leaking at like 20 weeks. Then I stopped producing after 3 weeks.

This time I have nothing so far, so maybe I'll produce longer????

I'm having serious breast feeding anxiety!!  so much so that I bought a can of formula to have on hand JIC! I hate not knowing!!!!

While I have a ways to go...I was thinking about posting the same thing yesterday. I remember leaking with DD 6 years ago and it was about this time in my pregnancy, however no luck so far. I was worried but I read that it is common for some women to not leak at all and still have a very normal and able milk supply when baby gets here.

Not sure the reason some women do and some dont or that the ones that do the first time dont the second or third, but I guess that is one of the beauties of pregnancies being so strangely different!.

Beset wishes to Bfing!!

Consider yourself lucky.  I don't know that leaking vs not leaking makes a lot of difference to your breast feeding but I didn't leak with my first and I'm leaking from one side with this one.  We shall see.

I didn't leak with DD, and my supply wasn't enough to support half of her needs so I was supplementing with formula from 2 weeks on until my supply completely dried up at about 10 weeks. I haven't leaked this time either, so we'll see. I plan to maximize the lactation consultant while in the hospital, and then make multiple out patient appointments once we are home if I see the slightest sign that my supply is low to avoid the end result with DD.

Leaking is no indication of your ability to breastfeed or produce milk.

If you're concerned about being able to breastfeed, I highly suggest getting the phone number for a lactation consultant to have on hand for when you get home (lots of hospital LCs will make themselves available, and some hospitals have breast feeding support groups), or look up your local La Leche League. They have people that will come to your house for free and help you with breast feeding issues. It might be more beneficial than just a can of formula, if you're serious about BF.

I did not leak with DD or DS and I could not BF past 4 months with either of them.  I could produce foremilk, but never enough hindmilk no matter how I tried to express it, and no matter how long I tried to express it.

This time, I leak when they're stimulated.  I'm not banking on being able to BF just because of that, though.

DD: 6/30/09. Mild pre-e DS: 9/5/10. Normal pregnancy Diagnosed 6/4/12 with dermatomyositis. Currently on Prednisone and IVIG therapy. 9/11/12: Normal a/s for DS2. No side effects from my medication, yay! DS2: 1/28/13. Thankful for healthy children! Baby Birthday Ticker Ticker Baby Birthday Ticker Ticker Baby Birthday Ticker Ticker

Yes

Whether or not you leak has nothing to do with whether or not you can breastfeed.  I didn't leak, and was able to BF DD.

I leaked with DD and BFed until I was 3 mos pregnant. I haven't leaked yet, but don't foresee any issues with not being able to BF.

Rationally I don't think it means anything, but I am kind of worried about it too. With 1 I leaked a lot while pregnant and had a really good bf experience. With this one I have leaked a little, but no where near the same amount.

Anxiety is not going to help the BFing process, I hate to tell you. :-\

I didn't leak at all with DS and my milk supply was poor was the beginning. So, not leaking =\= having a better supply.

Exactly!  I didn't leak with my first and my supply was fine but we had issues with latch and the anxiety is what stunted us for awhile.  I was able to nurse him when he was about a month and we went until 6 mos when I weaned.  I leak from one side this go around but I'm not concerned with my supply.  I'm less anxious about BFing this time and I know that's going to make the difference.

This exactly.  I did not leak with either baby and was able to produce enough for over year.  It is random like being dilated, losing your mucous plug, etc.. It is different each time and means nothing.  Pick a LC to meet with right after the baby is born, like the day you come home.  That was the reason I succeeded.  Good luck!!

I never leaked with DS1 and I had major oversupply issues for quite awhile. You never know.

I did not leak at all with #1 and BF for 15 months. I even had an oversupply.  I am not leaking at all now pregnant with #2.  Maybe lining up a few new LC for this baby might help.

I'm really glad you posted this! I have been having some serious Anxiety about BF abilities since they haven't changed at all, weight/size or anything like that. So I was beginning to worry they haven't even started producing (that I can notice mind you, FTM so I could be missing signs). So thank you, it really helped to read all the posts and be able to take one more thing out of this ftm worry pile.

I didn't leak at all with either pregnancy. Had supply issues early on with DS1 but ended up BFing until he was 18 months. No supply issues with DS2 and still going strong at nearly 6 months.

And again, no leakage either pregnancy.

This.

Take a BFing class if you have one available. It answered a lot of questions for me and reduced a lot of anxiety for me regarding the issue.
