Question for BFing moms

Hi ladies -

I've still got plenty of time for this, but I'm curious - I've seen a lot of people recommend lanolin to help keep nipples moisturized while BFing, but I'm allergic to it! Has anyone found a good alternative?

TIA!

My LC actually suggested chap-stick (not scented or menthol).  She said lanolin doesn't really let your nipples breathe to inhibit healing, and chap-stick allows the nipple to calus over and heal so it's not as painful.  I hardly ever used lanolin.

Put your own breast milk on them! I would take one of my cloth bra pads and soak it in breast milk and keep it on my nipples for about 20 minute stretches at a time.  It was very soothing.

Thanks, ladies. I'm already a devotee of coconut oil, so I'll definitely give that a go first (since I always have a big jar of it anyway), and will keep this list for later.

use breastmilk and let your nipples dry. Coconut oil if more moisturizer is needed.

Please forgive my typos! I'm not as dumb as my iphone would like you to believe :)

This. I never did the breast pad thing, but I always expressed some milk and rubbed it in and allowed to air dry before snapping my bra closed again (when practical).

I plan on using Earth Mama Angel Baby nipple butter or Coconut Oil. I hear both are great!

THIS. When my nips were messed up during the first two weeks of nursing the lanolin made them feel like they were on fire. I hated it. I eventually got some triple ointment with a steroid in it from my lactation consultant, but breastmilk was the best in the interim.
