My birthing fear

Most women seem to be terrified of labor pain so they already plan to get an epidural. I have never been scared of pain, i see it more as a challenge. So no drugs for me. Labor was incredibly intense with my first son. I had a water birth at home and loved the hot water, the pain was manageable.  My fear has nothing to do with laboring, it is that I am afraid of the stitches after!  How ridiculous is that. I can handle broken bones, intense labor, all kinds of stuff but i get ancy over a few stitches down there!

I remember even with the anesthetic she applied i could still feel the needle.  Im not scared of needles either.  There is just something about that itsy bitsy prick and the sting. Not to mention last time she put a stitch through my clit! Its only semi operational and is uncomfortable often. My fear makes me feel ridiculous but its there.  Okay now to suck it up lol

I hear you.  With my second though, no stitches were needed and she was 2 lbs. larger than my first.  Hopefully you just won't need any!

I have read a few women didn't need them with the second.  I hope not. This baby appears smaller so maybe I will be lucky

I tore really weird imo i didn't tear down but more of a separation of skin layers??? Hard to explain. Look at the palm of your hand and imagine that the friction just opens you palm! That happened as he came out! Huge head. The stitch thru my clit was the upward tear. I didn't know it till later either.  I had to use a bucket of warm water anytime i wanted to pee because it stung so bad. After two weeks it didn't sting anymore. Owwa owa the after was worse then the labor. I will take labor over that any time.

That seems like the kind of pain that would be super irritating/annoying. Hopefully you won't have it as bad this time. Good luck!

So your main source of nerve endings purely for sexual pleasure has been permanently altered, and you think that your fear is ridiculous?

Um, I'd have the same fear times 23534634523 if that were me. Hopefully you don't tear this time so that you don't have the strange tear you were talking about.

I'm a FTM due next month and my main fear this whole pregnancy has been the post-partum recovery. I know labor will be painful but at the end I get to hold my son. It's all the stitches and the pain while using the bathroom and the bleeding, etc., etc.  that happens afterward that I'm worried about. And since you have already had a negative experience with post-partum recovery, I don't blame you! Best luck to you that this time around is easier.

I totally agree with this! I am a FTM more scared of post-partum recovery than labor too!

Post partum recovery was much worse for me than labor and delivery, but I had an epidural.  I also had 4th degree tears, plus upward tears.  If I hadn't had the epidural for the delivery, I probably would have needed one for the repair anyway.  I had let's say hundreds of stitches.  They lost count.  They upped my epi dosage for the surgery.

As a FTM this was my number one fear as well, tearing and stitching, not labor.  I ended up with a 2nd degree tear which didn't heal, got infected, etc etc.  It's a totally vaild and real fear.  I'm freaked about tearing again but like the first time around there's not much I can do about it.  In the end, even though it really sucked, the fear was worse than the reality.

The best advice I was ever given regarding labor pain was that a contraction lasts about a minute- you can make it through a minute of pain and then it's done, you've got time to recover and gear up for the next.

Now- my OB told me that she could give me IV pain meds to "relax" me and help deal with the pain. Well, all that did was knock me out so my memory of labor with DD was one never ending contraction, so I ended up begging for an epidural. Told my OB no IV pain meds this time, I want to try to deal with the pain as much as possible with a clear head.

My mom tore with all six of her kids.

I've only had stitches after oral surgery, so I've never been awake for them. Guess there's a first time for everything.
