Car seat base on airplane?

Hello!

How easy / difficult is it to carry a car seat base onto an airplane?  My parents live across the country and we are considering getting one to keep at their house during visits.  Any thoughts?

Thanks!

Maybe try installing the seat without the base to see if it's really all that difficult? My understanding is that as long as it is installed correctly, the seat is safe whether it is installed with the base or with just the seatbelt. The base is just a convenience but if you can survive without it for the duration of your stay, you wouldn't have to worry about buying a new one or carrying it on.

This is what I plan on doing when we travel.

If they live far enough to fly you'll be in their car infrequently enough to just strap the seat in baseless. Unless you're using it every day an extra base is pretty useless IMO because strapping it in without it is really easy.

If you really want to get a base for them, I  would order it online and have it shipped to their house then just use the seat baseless on the plane. It will just make things much quicker and easier for you!

If you want to keep one at ther house why not just buy it online and ship it to them? It would be one less thing to carry on the plane. I'm pretty sure you won't be able to use the base on the plane because the seatbelt would interfere with the car seat clicking into it.
Most infant carriers are easy to install baseless so you might not even need a second base.

Yes, that was the plan if we decided to get a second one.  We wanted to make sure shelling out the extra $70 made sense.

I didn't know you could install car seats into cars without the base.  We'll plan on doing that unless we find we can't do so with the Britax B Safe.

Thank you.

Such a waste of money.  Most car seats can be installed without the base.  Just leave it home.

What I'm taking from your OP is that you will buy it for them to keep there when you visit, and not bring it back home when you leave. Correct? If that's the case, I highly suggest buying a cheap convertable to keep there instead, so as your LO gets older you'll get more use out of it than the infant base. Or just skip buying anything right now and just use the seatbelt on the infant seat like PPs suggested

I have a Britax B-Safe and have installed it a handful of times without the base.
