I waited until someone asked. I was well into 20 weeks by then. All it took was answering the question of one student, in one class before it was around the whole school.

What are you worried about?

I told my students by writing it in my journal, which I project on the board for everyone to read as I write.  I said something about "the baby" and let them catch on. One class I just told without the journal.  I said something like, "I'm going to have a baby in May, and I wanted to let you know that I may have to miss the last few weeks of school, as well as a few days here and there if I need to go to the doctor."

They asked a few questions (what are you having, when are you due, etc.) and that was that.

I'm a h.s. teachers as well and I just waited for them to ask.  I still haven't even told all of my colleagues.  I'm a pretty private person, but if someone asks, I'll gladly tell them.

I was hoping to wait until after Christmas to tell my 5th graders, but that didn't really work..lol At 16 weeks they asked the question before I started class one day. I t actually worked out better that they asked, because I didn't know what to say.  Of course after one class found out, the rest knew before the end of the day.  It was a fun week for me and the kids.  I don't know about high school students though .  Have fun with it either way!

Thank you for the advice. It just seems funny to make an announcement. I will just wait until a students qustions the bump (whenever it decides to pop out). =)

I taught second grade, so I don't have any experience with older students, but my students were pretty oblivious, but the parents I saw everyday (morning recess) started noticing at about 18 weeks. They told their kids, and then it spread from there. Regardless of age kids love to talk.

I am waiting for a kid to notice.  I teach 7th grade so it shouldn't be long before someone notices I'm "getting fat," which is how it went down last time.

This. I teach 9th and 10th grade. I told my principal after my successful 16 wk appt. Then, my first kiddo asked around 17 wks because I started showing a bit. In a week, about everyone had heard.

I decided not to do a big announcement because my kids are not the most mature. The more laid back I acted, the less excited/dramatic they were. :)

I told my students right before Christmas break.  I have gained a good amount of weight, and I knew by January it would be obvious.  I figured, I'd rather make the announcement and do it on my terms, than to be interrupted in the middle of a lesson by a sudden observation and then lose their focus for the rest of the class.  I just told them that I would be unavailable to teach summer school this upcoming summer because I would be home with a baby.  I also explained that as I grew, I would need a little more of their help: keeping their legs & bags out of the aisles, picking up pens & papers off the floors, etc.    I didn't know how freshmen and sophomores would react, but they have been absolutely great!

I teach middle school and I waited until they asked.  One kid asked me in first period and pretty much everyone knew pretty soon after that.  I didn't feel the need to make any kind of announcement to them.

Aw I wouldn't wait until they notice! That is awkward for anyone! I told my middle schoolers and they were playing a game of hangman in their free time! They are children in emotional support and were shocked at first.  Then the next day they came in and surprisingly asked me very appropriate questions (how long have you known, boy or girl, can you feel it kick, do you have names, etc.)

Then I told the senior highs in youth group, "Just to let you know, I am not awkwardly getting fat, I am pregnant.  So we can talk about it and don't be weird not knowing if I'm pregnant or just getting fat." They thought it was hilarious! But this was a different setting than in a school.
