just out of curiosity

So when I was pregnant I had a whole list of things I will never do or let DD have. Two of the big ones were no pacifier until she was at least 6 weeks old and no bed sharing. Well at 3 days old my boobs needed a break so she got a paci and has had it since.  And after a week of no sleep she finally slept cuddled with me in bed and stayed asleep for 6 hours, so now she sleeps with me every night.  I was just wondering if anyone else is finding themselves doing something they said they would "never do" before their LO was born.

I always said I'd "never" nurse while pregnant. Yet, the toddler definitely nursed her way through my pregnancy and is still going.

AngelSmitty: This reminds me of something my college Human Sexuality professor used to say in class. "Sex is between the legs. Gender is between the ears."

Yup, lots of things like this. The list gets longer as you go. Mine was always no bedsharing, no formula, no fast food before age 4, no juices before age 4, ect.

I think I've broken all of them. It happens. You do what works.

I haven't caved, but MH SWORE up and down that our child would never have a paci.  *snicker* He has since seen the power of the paci.  Lol!

The bed sharing.... I never in a million years thought I would cave on that one. I guess you don't really know what it means to be tired until a newborn shows up!

I said I would never bed share.. I don't do it every night, but after fighting sleep, or a few nights of not very good sleep... heck yes I am bed sharing.

With DS I broke every rule I swore by. It makes me laugh now when I hear my pregnant friends saying the things they'll "never" do. Its also helped me to learn not to judge other mothers. I had several preconceived notions that moms just did certain things because they were lazy but now I know its survival... you do whatever it takes to survive! LOL

DS is 3 and still has his paci and bedshared for 2 years. He is an extremely independent and smart boy but very headstrong. LOL

With DD I never said never. Whatever happens I'm good with.

I said I would never let her sleep in my arms or in bed, because my FB ended up sleeping in our bed for three months and I didn't want a repeat of that. Where is my newborn sleeping every night? My bed. Oh well.

You name it!  I swore I'd never bed-share.  I wanted to hold out on the paci (we started the day DH went back to work).  I wanted a natural birth - I ended up having every drug under the sun and ended up with a c-section. Ahh plans.

We said no paci until 2 weeks and we caved the first night at the hospital. We said no nursery and she slept both nights at the hospital in the nursery. We said no formula and started supplementing at 1 week bc of no weight gain. I am sure there are more but those are the top ones that came to mind. Also, we basically did not follow my birth plan at all. You have to roll with the punches and do what works best for you at the time. I most certainly will not judge any mothers like I used to unless they are putting the baby in jeopardy of course.

DS didn't have a pacifier and I wasn't planning on using one this time either.  After 4 weeks I gave in because DD kept using me as a pacifier.  The drive to take DS to school is also has a change in elevation of about 1,000 feet so it's pretty necessary then.

Cosleep.  I thought it was crazy and never in a million years thought I would do it. I did it for a couple of weeks with E. Not every time he fell asleep, but at least 1 tim a night I would hold him in bed and sleep.  During the day he naps on me sometimes.
