Country Club Baby Shower?

I got invited to a shower that is being held at a Country Club. I don't see an issue with it, but I others that were invited have made some rude comments - in which I say "Don't go then". I know the guest list is fairly large and the family is a part of the club.

What's your opinion on a baby shower being held at a Country Club?

Depends on the club. Some country clubs are still discriminatory against certain races or religions. If it were one of those, I'd have a problem. Otherwise, whatever. It's just a venue.

I am curious about the comments that you say are being made about the venue.

I think it sounds lovely.

That it's snooty, and complaining about having to dress up (which I always thought you dressed up for a shower event anyway). That it's a way of "showing off" how much money is being put forward - as to "compete" with other family members.

It sounds like others are just complaining to complain. I think a country club would be a nice place to have a baby shower.

Sounds like your friends have been drinking some haterade?

And yes, I always dress up for a shower, even if it's in someone's home.

It would probably be a nice venue.  Maybe they give free use of venue if your a member.  If its known they are more well off, whats the big deal?

This is making me think of the bridal shower scene in the movie "Bridesmaids".  I draw the line if they are giving puppies away as a favor.

Sounds like some jealousy or envy there.

Get dressed up and enjoy cake. Geez man. If they don't like it then don't go. No one is forcing them to show up.

Shoot, I'd love to go to a shower at a country club.

I wasn't such a fan of that movie, but that scene is hands down the best.

"Are you *** kidding me, Helen?"  bahahah.

Honestly, OP - I'd side-eye a baby shower at a Country Club only because it seems like too much for that kind of party.  I think of baby showers as more intimate affairs that you don't invite 70 people to.  But hey!  Others don't.  I wouldn't turn down the invitation, but I'd wonder how many people were invited and why the day had to be such a big deal.

What?!  This is the only way I'm going!

But in seriousness, I was going to throw my friend a shower a a golf club, just because it's pretty.  Like PP asked, what were the objections?

Sounds silly.  I doubt they have to get that dressed up anyway.  Probably no different than a shower anywhere else.

It's quite easy to say NO, right? I, however, am looking forward to a good meal - haha.

One of my friend's showers was at her grandmother's country club, but that's just how her grandmother rolls. I loved it. Great food, everyone had a seat at this big long table where we could chat, valet so I didn't have to park. Put down the haterade people!

LOL- I agree with the haterade!  If the hosts can afford to have it at a club, that's great.  A lot of clubs require members to spend a certain amount per year, so this may be an easy way for the host to fulfill their annual requirement.

Honestly, the guests are going to some trouble to go shopping for a gift, it's nice to treat them to a nice meal and get together.  I always get dressed up for showers, so I don't know why they're complaining about that.

As people always say, it's an invitation and not a summons.  If they don't like it, they can just decline.  More yummy food for everyone else :-)

Green with jealousy.

I used to work as a banquet server at a Country Club. There would quite often be baby showers on Sunday afternoons. It was never over the top elaborate, just a nice venue to host a function.

Um, part of the benefits of belonging to a cc or yacht club or a racquet club are to be able to have events there and not have to have them at your house. Anyone that hates on going to a cc for an event is petty and jealous. I have literally never heard of anything so ridiculous. And, FYI, often times the venues just charge for food-part of the benefits of membership are not having to pay site rental fees.

I've gone to 3 held at country clubs (actually one was at a yacht club) and they were very nice and the food was delish.  Why would people make rude comments?  I'm sure if the family is a member they get a good price.  My FIL belonged to a country club and he was just a regular old guy who liked to golf...plus they lived across the street from it so he didn't even have to drive there.  lol  We almost bought a house inside a country clubs grounds but the HOA fees were way too high...especially since my DH only plays AT golf and it wouldn't have been worth it.

What are the rude comments?

Everyone in my family belongs to country clubs. We, and most members, tend to hold most of our events there because it's just easier. I don't see how it's any different then having an event at a restaurant.
