Confusing doctor appointment today

I went to the doctor today because I was having contractions. My doctor checked me, but she did not tell me if I had dilated anymore. She told me last week that I was at 1.5 cm. When she was checking my cervix today, she told me that she felt a foot. I told her that was weird because the other doctors have been telling me that my baby was head down. She ordered an ultrasound and the U/S lady told me that the baby was head down. Even after talking to the U/S lady my doctor still insisted that she felt a foot down there. She ordered the U/S lady to look again for a foot when the ultrasound lady called her on the phone. After the U/S, I went back to see my doctor and she told me to go home and rest and that it would not be long before time to deliver. She told me to basically wait it out at home for awhile. I'm 37 weeks pregnant this week. The ultrasound lady did take a second look and she pointed out a place on the ultrasound that looked like a foot. It close to the babies head...she said that she thought it was hair. Now I'm sitting here wondering if I'm having twins again. I have identical twin 6 year olds. My family has been making comments about not knowing and having twins. I kept saying...I knew about the boys at 6 weeks and I told them that it was doubtful. However, after today...I'm beginning to wonder. Is it possible in the day and age to not know your having twins?

I'm confused as to how a trained ultrasound tech would mistake hair for a foot. Hmm

I would think that you'd see twins on the ultrasound especially with how far along you are.

It's rare, but I guess it is possible. My friend didn't find out that she was having twins until 28 weeks. That's kind of weird though, now I'm dying to know if you're having one or two, keep us updated.

Maybe it is an absorbed twin, and the foot (protruding out of the other one's head) is all that remains of the weaker one.

Sounds like MUD.

I bet your baby just has a foot growing out of its head. No big deal.

Sounds like the ultrasound tech just didn't want to disagree with the doctor.

I doubt this is MUD.

As for twins....very unlikely they would have missed a second baby up to this point....hello.

I am not sure why this is such a confusing issue....the baby can be head down and have his/her little feet up around his head.   So BOTH the Tech and the Doctor could be right.  I mean...isn't he/she already folded up in there?????

This, my last ultrasound, baby had a foot up by her head, it's quite common.
