wdyt of Sadie?

I personally think its a terribly cute name...but thats the problem - I just cant see it on an adult! We have a Sara and a Sally in the family and all 3 are forms of the other, which is why we're considering it. I'd love to use it as a nn, but i really really dislike the name Mercedes.

 

thoughts on this snowy (at least where i am!) day?

I like it and I actually think it ages well, I know a 4 yr old Sadie but before her I viewed it as an old woman name (like charlotte, which has now become popular as well).

I like it as a nn for Sarah, but I have the same concerns as you regarding its cuteness. It's definitely cute and spunky, though.

It is my dd's name - just Sadie. I see your point, but I know 3 adult just Sadies who are all very successful. One of them earns a gajillion dollars as some senior executive at JP Morgan. So it hasn't held her back. Also consider that there are a lot of Sadies, Sophies, etc. They will all become adults at the same time, and then it won't be seen like a little-girl name.

I have always thought of Sadie as a dog name since I knew two dogs with this name growing up.  However I met an adult Sadie and I have changed my views on it.  I actually have two Sadies on my BMB.  I like it.

I feel it could be a NN even to Serena or Sabrina.  I actually do like Mercedes but hate the luxury car connection which would automatically get linked to the Bentley, Diamond, "rich" name trend.

First I think of Funny Girl (Sadie Sadie, married lady - my handle)

Then I think of a dog.

I think it's a great nickname for Mercedes or Sarah, I don't love it as a standalone but if you do, go for it.

Sadie was a term of endearment that my great-aunt used for all of us when we were young, so I have warm fuzzy feelings about this one. When we were naming our daughter, I briefly considered Sedona nn Sadie, but DH nixed it pretty quickly.

I think it's a dog name. I don't see it on a human at all. I never knew it was a nickname for Sarah, which is funny because my name is Sara and our family dog was Sadie growing up.

Old woman name.  Specifically makes me think of Sadie the 80 year old who pushed around the garbage pails in the lunch room when I was in elementary school.

Not a cute name.

I love the name Sadie.  We may name this baby Sadie, except that everyone has a freaking opinion about this name and my H isn't sold on it.  And it's really annoying. 

If you think about it, anything can be used as a dog's name.  Katie, Macy, Ginny, etc.  My dog's names are Willy and Macy but I don't go up to people named Will/Willy/William or Macy and tell them they have dog names.  That's so rude.

I've only ever known one person named Sadie and she's a really cute girl that's my age with a great personality.  It's a great name and if you love it, go for it!

My cats names are Willus and Macey!  Great minds :)  Our dogs always had people names.  Right now we have a Harrison and a Hannah.  I agree, anything can be a pet's name.

I have a Sadie, and think it will age quite well.  She does have a strong middle name which I think helps with it being not to 'cutesy'.

I have no problem seeing it on an adult because I know a 56 year old Sadie and a 30 year old Sadie. 

 Side note: obviously, if you name your child any name, its going to grow into adulthood with them.  You could name them Bubbles Rainbow and in 30 years they will be an adult woman with the name Bubbles. The whole "Thats not an adults name" is the most bizarre argument. Obviously the name Sadie has been used for longer than 2 years, so yes there are absolutely lots of 20, 30, 50, 80 year olds out there with the name.
