Anyone else getting bad migraines?

I went to the urgent care yesterday because i have had a migraine for 3 days straight and the pressure in my head was just pounding so i started puking. I don't really know it's just how my body reacted. But the urgent care couldn't do anything so that doctor sent me to the hospital. So i was there for 5 hours they did tests they did oxygen they gave me IV fluids and of course it still didn't go away. For me i just am worried of not controlling it because i don't want the baby to get hurt. They gave me something to make me sleepy issue is i couldn't get comfortable so it never happened. I just went home i asked if i could go home. Even though it didn't go away all the way i didn't want to get a CT scan or an MRI at least until my baby is born. Looks like i will just have to figure something else out. I do take Tylenol if it gets pretty bad but it doesn't do much. Anyone have or had this problem? Any ideas?

Oh wow well then I might be where you're at in 5 weeks. Have you googled yet why you may have swelling of the brain? I mean I know pregnant woman are supposed to have compression headaches but I thought that was only in early pregnancy.
What I guess, did the doctor say?

I suffer from migraines prior to pregnacy and excedrin was my life saver. Of course that's out of the question now. About 2 weeks ago I had a headache/migraine with some dizzy spells for a whole week with vomiting, tylenol extra strength wasn't helping at that point so I gave in called my OBs office and they had me come in right away! My BP was actually lower than usual, so after asking me a few questions they perscribed me zofran for the vomiting and percocet for the migraines. They assured me both were okay for the baby and myself. Luckly I took one of each the same night slept it off and knock on wood since then I haven't taken the medications again and I haven't had any more episodes. I lived off gatorade and toast for a few days and felt better after that. GL... hope you feel better soon. It's a horrible feeling.

Well when i went to the ER they gave me a doctor that works with special medicine i am not sure about what ype of doctor or whatever but they were just concerned because they can't do much for the pain besides giving me really strong medicine which i don't want because i have to work and be a wife and i have been on them before and all i want to do is sleep. He did give me benadryl which i guess helps with headaches i never knew that. but he said to observe them and see if anything causes them because then it would be a lot easier to treat. I guess there is a lot of type of headaches and migraines.

The headache itself isn't going to hurt the baby and if it's truly a bad one (or migraine level) Tylenol isn't going to cut it.  You need to talk to your doctor because there are meds out there that are considered safe during pregnancy.  I take Fioricet because I can't function when my super bad headaches hit.

Try taking MAGNESIUM!!

Of course check with your dr., but people who suffer from migraines often have lower levels of magnesium- This goes for pregnant or not pregnant.

Before my pregnancy, I took a daily medication to maintain my migraines. When I had to go off it, I started seeing a neurologist and he suggested taking magnesium supplements. He recommended starting with about 50-100mg a day, then if that doesn't help after a while, start upping the dosage. Your body can handle 400mg a day. This is what I have to take. It helps a lot!! I still get  migraines and I take fiorcet (pregnancy safe) for the attacks, but they are not as frequent nor as strong- just like when I took my daily medication.

Also, B6 is very helpful in combating migraines. I promise, do yourself a favor and ask your dr. about it and Google it. It's true and it's more natural than prescriptions.

Good luck!

I take two Tylenol with a cup of coffee or a small coke. You can also get excedrin migraine WITHOUT the aspirin. They make that now. I suffer from severe migraines too! Alsoake sure you are eating every couple hours...that tends to help me out too! Eek! Hope you feel better!

where is the migraine centralized? i have gotten migraines for years due to my neck being straight (its a long story). the only things i have found that help are: taking tension headache asprin (for me), having my husband massage the area, and ice packs. the ice pack reduces the swelling that is causing the migraine. now that i know where the pain is centralized i regularly put the ice pack on it to reduce the number of times that i have to take asprin.

This is a genuine question but how would the baby be hurt by a migraine?

Talk to your doctor. There are additional medications that are cleared to use (especially after 1st tri). I have dealt with migraines since I was in high school but they get so much worse when I am pregnant. I had a complex migraine when I was with pregnant with DD. The initial thought was that I was having a stroke because it was so bad (jumbled speech, vision issues, and numbness on the left side of my face, arm and hand). My doc had me use Tylenol with Codeine when they got particularly bad this time. It has helped somewhat. I might as well be taking a tic-tac with simple Tylenol. It does squat...even when taken alongside to coke or a little bit of coffee.

I hope you are able to talk with your doctor and take the next step forward. If you are going into the ER, I would think that it's bad enough that additional measures may need to be taken. Good luck!

Exedrin tension headache has both acetaminophen and caffiene in it.  I just kind of make my own with a coke and 2 tylenol.

My OB thinks some of my symptoms might be exaggerated by my migraines (mine are tolerable for the most part, at least during pregnancy so far). She said there are migraine medications you can take if migraines are really bad or cause dangerous side effects. Definitely talk to your OB.

I just went and saw my ENT for what I thought was another struggle with vertigo. It's actually migraines I am experiencing for the first time! He thinks mine is hormone induced due to going back on my anti depressant. He suggested I ween back off my meds (with direction from ob and midwife) and drink a coke a day. I haven't had them until I went back on my meds, so he really thinks this is the cause. It is NO FUN!

Married my BEST FRIEND on December 1, 2007. Started TTC in March 2008. Found out we were expecting our first child in October 2008 - but had a m/c in December 2008 - resulting in a d&e. Met with a RE in May 2009 and set a plan - but conceived unexpectedly on our own! Our precious little Sophia was born on February 9, 2010! Lilypie Third Birthday tickers

Monday night I began to get a headache. Lasted through Tuesday, Wednesday and into today. Tylenol wasn't cutting it. Tried Benadryl thinking maybe it was allergies. Nope. DH suggested having coffee for the caffeine. It worked. One cup of regular coffee kicked it. My head had been pounding for days. And now I'm good. Probably not a migraine since I wasnt seeing spots or vomiting but it was enough to keep me in bed for two days.

I've always had bad migraines for the past couple years and nothing ever seemed to help, they have been even worse with being pregnant though, but only got bad enough so far once that I've thrown up. Hope you feel better.

My issue is i have never drank coffee in my life i don't know just doesn't sound good. I also cut out caffeine a couple years ago and haven't had a caffeinated drink in over 3 years so i don't know i just never thought it would actually make a difference.

I'm not much of a coffee drinker, only iced coffee or frappe's here and there, nor do I drink pop, but sometimes when I do have a migraine I will drink maybe half a pop or iced coffee (as I am now actually) and it tends to simmer down if not go completely away, when tylenol doesn't do it's job, although I think I'm immune to it and doesn't do a thing for me.

I suffer with a seizure disorder accompanied with headaches, I'm on meds for the seizures but headaches are a pain. Make sure you drink plenty of water. Lay down in a cool, dark, quiet place and put a cool compress on your neck and forehead.. also massaging peppermint oil on your temples may give some relief. Sorry you're going thru this, it's no fun!

This is the first time in my life I have had migraines. The only thing that seems to take the edge off is 2 Tylenol and a strong cup of coffee. If an hour later I'm still hurting, I will take 1 more Tylenol and somehow, most of the time, that seems to work. Otherwise, we just have to deal and it sucks! Hugs.

YES!  I am having twins and my OB told me that bad headaches are usual with twins.  There is so much blood pumping around.  He prescribed Tylenol with Codeine and I take one a day.  You should have your doc get you a prescription for either the Tylenol with Codeine or the Fioricet.  Neither will harm your baby!
