Vomit

Due to BF issues, I pump and supplement for my 1 week old. The first few days he was just fine with Similac Advantage. Last night he projectile vommited after a 3oz bottle this is what he typically drinks. He did it again just now. Earlier in the morning he had no issues with a 2oz feeding. Does this sound like an issue with the amount offered to him he always roots for more after 2oz or a formula issue? I have other samples here I can try gerber gentle, gerber soothe, and enfamil newborn.

Is he fussy otherwise?  In my opinion 3oz seems like way too much for a 1 week old.  My LO at that time was only drinking 1oz, maybe 1.5.  he is 10 weeks old, has gained 4 lbs since birth and currently takes in between 4 and 5oz.

He is not fussy and he is wetting plenty of diapers....the only time he gets fussy is when I don't feed him enough. Hence the 3oz.

If a baby takes in too much food they will puke it up.  Sometimes they eat more than they can handle.  Personally I think we we feed them formula over breastfeeding they tend to take in way more than they "should" cause it is available.  I always used gerber gentle on my kids and it worked great.  If he isn't fussy and wetting diapers then I wouldn't worry about it too much.

If it is still going on your baby may have reflux.

I think he's eating too much. 3oz is A LOT for a 1 week old. His stomach can only 1.5-2 oz at this point.

I would focus on other reasons eh might be fussy, needs to burp, etc. Give the 2 oz, burp, etc. change diapers, then if still hungry try .5oz.

This! Our 6 week old drinks 3 to 4 ounces. You need to give her some then take a break and see if she still needs more. DD drinks so fast that she thinks she still is hungry bc her body hasn't had a chance to process the food yet. If we give her a bit too much at once she throws up so now we take breaks after 2 ounces and then at 3 and then again at 4.

Could be overfeeding as mentioned...but projectile vomiting can also mean other things. Maybe talk with your doctor. Our little one had projectile vomiting and had an underdeveloped valve between the esophagus and the stomach...was ok though. But nice to know what was causing it.

Thanks everyone. He has been ok with the vomiting as I am only giving him 12 oz at a time now. Although we had some serious crying fits throughout the day.
