baby won't sleep at night on his own...

it's not that i'm against bed sharing - i just don't personally want to do it and DH and i have agreed on this. i also don't trust us enough to not roll on him or that he won't get caught up in our blankets.

however...........the past week he's ended up in bed with us by 3am because he's up every hour when he's sleeping in his playpen but when he's wrapped in my arms he'll sleep 3-4 hours!!

i lay on my back and just hold him on his back in my arm which is fine but my back and neck are killing me and having had a csection it is uncomfortable as it is...

just more of a vent...but suggestions welcome on how to keep him sleeping longer in the playpen

I asked my mom what she did with me in this situation, and she said that she'd lay me down in my bassinet, pat my tummy and talk reassuringly while I fussed around and cried a bit. She'd go 5-10 minutes at a time like that. If it wasn't working, she'd pick me back up, console me some, but put me back down in the bassinet and do it again.

I tried it with my LO last night and she went to sleep very quickly. Do you swaddle? Our LO fights hers at first but it saves us in the end.

Rock n play! Tey are on sale at target.com right now and will be on sale in stores this sun. Get one. Seriously. It keeps them elevated and also snuggles them a bit. Plus it's easy to fold and travel with and is small enough to put next to your bed. Trust me on this one. Best money you will spend. A def must!!!!! And much safer than cosleeping.

When they are that young, I feel you do whatever is necessary to get them to sleep, even if it's not ideal. My LO slept on me for the first month or so which didn't let me sleep much, but that's the way it goes!

It won't be that way for long. They are so young and little and it seems like they need comfort in order to sleep. Just get through it for now :)

Yep this combined with swaddling and white noise work great for us. We were/are also not keen on bed sharing. Give it a try!!

This! My son loves his! The only draw back I see at this point is that my son is 12 weeks old and I am trying to get him out of his RnP and in to his crib. He is not a fan of laying flat on his back since he is so used to his RnP. He will sleep in the crib, but wakes up MUCH more often in it than he does in his RnP. Since your baby is so young, I would totally suggest getting one for your LO's first few months!

This is my feeling exactly! I have been sleeping with DD on me, in the reclined, since we came home. It's not ideal, but its what works. If that's the only way I can get more than an hour of sleep, I'm all for it. I have tried the RnP and swing, neither work for us.

TTC since 7/2010. BFP #1 10/7/2010. M/C 11/3/2010. PCOS diagnosed 10/2011. BFP #2 4/29/2012 after 3 rounds of Clomid. 1/8/13- our little miracle is here!

He's been held continuously for over 9 months. He's never been alone, not held. It's normal for him to want and need to be touched. I would create a safe cosleeping environment cause falling asleep with baby is very likely in this immediate post partum period--so better safe than sorry. It's better for him to lay down next to you in the crook of your arm than to roll off.

it will be ok, he won't want to sleep touching you forever.

I would def get out of that habit as it can last too long. Bed sharing scares me too. I would put a heating pad on low in ds bed. I also had a thick book under the head of his mattress so he was a little slanted. Also swaddled him. When I went to put him in bed, I picked up the heating pad so he went from warm me to warm bed. I of course unplugged heating pad and put it on the floor. It helped a ton. Also white noise. I used a humidifier when he was a baby. Helped so much.

I held my son while he slept the first 9 weeks until I couldn't take it anymore.  Then he slept in his bouncer until he was maybe 5 months old...
