anyone have RLS??

sleeping has become a nightmare now! I can't stop moving my legs around & they feel WEIRD during the night. I read that Restless Leg Syndrome affects us right about now...does anyone else suffer from it and what do you do to stop yourself from chopping off your legs??

GRRRRR

I have it all the time, not just when pregnant. For me sleeping is usually the answer, but I've heard that eating more potassium can help as well.

I have been noticing it a lot! It is driving me crazy. For temporary relief having my husband rub my legs helps but it doesn't last long. Otherwise I have no clue... It is horrible though!!!

I have had it for years.  I stopped taking my med for it when I got pregnant because it's actually better now than it has ever been, but when I get really tired, it kicks in.  What I've found that helps me best:

1.  Even though not always posible, get in bed and try to get to sleep before you're exhausted.  Exhaustion always makes it HORRIBLE for me.

2.  This may not help you, but is my God-send - weight.  Have your SO put their legs over where it's bothering you (for me, the worst is usually in my hips).  Or get a heavy or weighted blanket and put if over your legs.  This stinks if you are already hot all the time like I am, but I'd rather sweat than feel that sensation.  If you can fold it to only cover the areas that bother you the most, it might not be that bad.  For me, it's my hips and knees.

3.  Exercise.  I can't do it as often or as much as I used to, but try taking a daily walk or doing some wall squats (if you're legs are up to it - if not, I wouldn't attempt it!).  Sometimes just stretching the joints or moving them around a bit helps, but not always.

Good luck!

It's worse for me when I'm over tired and dehydrated.

I have had it in third tri with this and my previous pregnancy.  I recently tried a home remedy that worked really well!  Rub icy hot or a similar rub on the bottom of your feet and put warm socks on.  For some reason, it seems to reduce the urge to move, at least enough to fall asleep.  It is the miracle cure for me!  Hope it helps.

I have also heard potassium helps.  Eat more bananas!

Not sure if you take benedryl at all but I have found this is what caused my RSL before I got pregnant.  I won't ever take that again!

Magnesium before bed works wonders.

I use Natural Calm.

I had this mildly with DD, and this pregnancy, it has come back with a vengeance. I developed a routine that is AWESOME for me... After dinner DD and I go for a walk, which she loves, and gets me some exercise in since I sit at a desk at work,, then I relax with my feet up for the evening (as much as I can), and take a warm bath before bed. Also make sure you're getting enough water, and a banana a day. That's what works for me, and I really only have issues if I don't get to follow my routine.

Not only does it help with my legs, but it helps me relax everything, forget about work stress, and gives me time to myself which is something we ALL deserve and need.

I miss my RLS meds very bad. It's 10X worse and it's every night. So I am taking sleeping meds every night (ambien or unisom). I get maybe 4-5 hours at a time even with a full ambien. I am sorry..all the good sleep hygiene protocols help some people so try to follow those (no caffeine within 12 hrs of bed, don't exercise right before bed, only use the bed for resting, etc).
