Planning your life/year while TTC

I'm curious to hear what others have done, here's my story.

I was looking for a new job with my current employer, but never got anywhere with that.  I can't stay for my sanity's sake.  So I've had a few interviews at other companies.

We're trying to plan two trips this spring,  one will be in the back country (canoe/hiking access only), the other is a biking trip.  Canoe trip would be refundable (I think), bike trip would not.

Since who knows how long it will take us the get KU, I'm torn on what to do.

What would you do? Or what do you currently do?

Live your life as if you are not TTC. You never know what's going to happen. You don't know if/when you will get KU. And even if you get KU, there are no guarantees for that either.

I live my unpregnant life.  And how strenuous are these trips?  You could probably still go on them even if you're a few months pregnant.  ::shrugs::

I wouldn't skip out on stuff like that just because you are TTC. We have a vacation planned for May and I will be going KU or not. Go and have fun! Even if you are KU then, you can still canoe and hike.

If you got pregnant and couldn't afford to take the loss of the bike trip, then I would rethink it.  Otherwise, go for it and have fun.

Go. Even if you get pregnant now you would only be a few months along. I went canoeing when i was about 12 weeks and it was fine. Just take is slow. The biking would be also fine. You would feel bad if you endend up not getting pregnant and missed a great trip. Plus after you have a baby you prob wont be doing those things for a bit.

Cross that bridge when you come to it.

No use in change/planning life in hopes that something that you have no control over will actually happen.

That's how I view it anyway :)

I plan to live my life. I'm presently training for bicycle tours that begin in May and end in November. Pregnant or not, I will be doing them all as long as it's medically possible and will not harm me, or a baby.

I guess it depends on how comfortable with you potentially losing that money. You can still bike when you're pregnant, it's just a matter of whether you'd feel up to it, or be physically comfortable or not.

TTC since October 2011.
DX with Non-IR PCOS in October 2012.
Missing RIGHT tube due to a prior surgery to remove cyst-zilla (40 lbs!) at age 12.
HSG showed tube was blocked - cleared by dye. DON'T DO CLOMID WITHOUT AN HSG!
Cycle #8 with 50mg Clomid & TI = BFN
Cycle #9 with 50mg Clomid & TI = No response.
Cycle #10 with Clomid 100mg + Ovidrel shot = BFN
Cycle #11 is a break cycle. Cycle #12 is a break cycle. (The break so nice, she did it twice!)

Thanks for the advice.  I think I'll plan on going. That's what I was leaning to, but just a little worried about making the commitments.

Thanks!

Against advice we spent the first 4-5 months of TTC acting like we were already pregnant. It was hard - made a challenging process even more difficult. Now we just rock it out all normal like. (Though I travel a lot and have not planned any trips that require malaria meds since we started TTC.)

Just a tip - if you do plan a trip with limited road vehicle access or not so great hospitals, consider buying a cheap travel insurance policy. When I recently went to Laos and Cambodia, I paid for a policy that would cover pregnancy complications and helicopter transport out of the country. I didn't end up needing it (wasn't pregnant at the time of the trip) but the peace of mind was well worth the $75!

We are planning a cruise this spring (our honeymoon) finally!!! We planned it so that  if I do KU..we will still be in the timeframe that allows me to board the boat. We are full steam ahead, while we are baby free..now when we get those two pink lines, of course we'll be estatic, but then..and only then will our routine or plans change!

You just have to go with the flow - act like you won't be pregnant and it'll be a happy problem if you couldn't do something you planned to do because you do become pregnant.

If you don't book something because you could potentially be pregnant, you'll probably be extra miserable if that day comes and goes and you're still not pregnant.

Depending on/if you get KU I would keep the trip planned. Me and DH are going to Disney in April and if by some chance I am prego we are still going to go. I can still do some things there. But I would say still do it. Exercise is good for the baby :) and you!

I'm with PPs. I'm going to San Francisco and Colorado this spring/summer. I'm really hoping to be KU by then (obviously) but if I'm not then at least I can drink on my trips! I look at them as another thing to look forward to that takes my mind off TTC.

I am planning things up to 6 months out (if being pregnant matters for what I am considering that is) only b/c most things I book (races, work trips that could be risky (I work outdoors on occasion and some work can be strenuous) should have no problem waiting until it is within 6 month window anyways. Thus I have booked races, vacation trips and work trips up until summer, but am holding out for fall activities b/c I can wait a bit longer to decide.

I agree with living your life.

The only thing we couldn't do was plan our dream vacation to Kenya/Tanzania because it required malaria meds. :(

I realize sometimes it can trip you up when you start thinking about all of the "what-ifs". I do it, too.

So me and my husband decided November 2011 to start ttgp. At the time I HATED my job, but made good money and had good benefits so we decided I should stay, get pregnant obviously right away and deal with getting a new job in a couple years.

Fast forward to July 2012, we realized we couldn't plan our lives around a baby that we didn't have yet. I switched jobs and love where I am. We just planned a trip to Vegas in August and if I am not pregnant yet, then I'll get super wasted and have lots of fun and let loose, and if I am pregnant, I'll be hot and uncomfortable and probably won't leave the pool and love every minute of it.

My point is, just live your life, it's all you can do.
