New Here! Missed period??

Hey ladies... my husband and I are trying for our 2nd... This is my first month off the pill.  I'm a week and a half late, but I've taken 4 tests and they're all negative.  I don't remember my periods being so off when we were trying last time.  Did any of you experience late periods or none at all?

Mine was late the first cycle off the pill. don't forget that it may take a few months for your body to regulate.

That can definitely happen coming off the pill.  If you don't get a period for 90 days (some ladies on here say 60), let your gyno know.

Dx with PCOS in 2006.
Cycle 2 off of BCP. No O in Cycle 1.
Saw RE 2/13. Starting Metformin. Continue to try naturally. Will try clomid in Spring depending on b/w and u/s.
B/W (tsh, lipids, iron, b12, etc)- good
Fasting glucose tolerance--?
Day 3 B/W -?

The bolded is probably the answer to why you are "late".

Did you just make that number up? MOST ladies say 60 because that tends to be a standard among doctors. Where did you hear 90? I'm genuinely curious.

I think its pretty common for periods to be a little messed up after going off the pill. In general, I think drs say it can be 3 months for it to regulate or more depending on how long you have been on the pill.

Unless you know when you ovulated, by tracking you BBT, you don't know if you are late. Your body probably needs some time to regulate after being on the pill.

You just came off BC yes? So your body is still adjusting. If you weren't charting/temping this first cycle then you don't know when or if you ovulated, therefore, you wouldn't know if you were late. I'm sure other ladies will jump in here with their experiences off of BC.

Welcome and good luck.

Edited for clarity.

I've had irregular cycles since I was young.  Dx with PCOS in 2006.  There have been many times when I wouldn't get my period on my own and every gyno, I guess I've gone through 4 different ones, and my RE all said they did not have to intervene (with provera, blood tests to check for hormone levels) until 90 days.  I've never heard 60 before coming on this board.  If I go through it again, I'll ask my endo.

Everyone here says 60 days but when I was coming off the pill and wondering what was going on, most websites I looked at (not message boards) said it could take up to 3 months for your period to return. Maybe that's why 90 days? It makes sense to me that if you're fresh off birth control, you'd give your body that extra time.

OP, my first cycle after the pill was 61 days. It took several months to get back to something regular. You may want to consider charting to gain some insight into what your body is doing.

I just came off the pill and my period is a week late as well. Everything I've read says it will take up to 6 months for cycles to regulate after coming off BCP. Just try to be patient.

You just stopped taking BC. It can take your body some time to adjust. Totally normal to be "late"...If all those tests are negative, you're not pregnant.

I took my last BC pill in mid August and didn't get my first period until a full month later, so I didn't actually have a period for over two months. My next couple of cycles after that were completely whacked, I had quite varying cycle lengths. It's normal after coming off of BCP.

No advice but I'm in the same boat. I took my last pill this month and am currently CD 17. I am in no way expecting my period to come around the same time it would come if I was on BC. It would be nice...but I'm fully prepared for it to take forever and drive me nuts. I hope AF comes soon for you or you get a positive HPT.

My first month coming off BCP I had a 38 day cycle.  So I was ten days "late" according to the BCP cycle of 28 days.  It takes time for your cycle to regulate, and your normal cycle length might be more (or less) than the 28 you used to have.

Responding about the 90/60 question above (but not letting me quote for some reason): my doctor prescribes Provera after 60 days if you are coming off of BC or it's the first time you need it and your bloodwork/hormones/etc check out after testing.  That's just to kick your body into gear.  However, if you aren't cycling regularly after that (and are off BC), she will only prescribe it every 90 days -- part of it might be because of all the testing they do each time, or it might be just her policy.  Either way, that's one explanation for the 90/60.
