Random ? about your delivery

I was discussing my labor/delivery with a friend and it made me remember something the nurse said. I got sick at one point during labor and the nurse said that without even checking me that she would guess I was around 7-8 cm (and she did check me and I was at 7) and that a lot of women throw up at that point. That being said.......did you throw up during labor?

Nope, I didn't with either, but I have heard of others getting sick during labor. It sounds like it wouldn't be fun at all.

I was a truly unlucky person with this one.  Threw up twice during labor, once I broke my water doing it (so I was like a 4 at that point), the other time was earlier on.  My sickness may have had to do with the fact that I was induced with cervadil.

Um, I threw up about the whole last half of labor....I had to stop pushing to throw up. That was with my first, this one I didn't throw up at all during labor.

Never threw up but that was my biggest fear.  I wonder if it is connected to the hormones.  Like if you suffered from morning sickness with vomiting you'd be more likely to do so during labor when you have a flood of hormones.  Just a thought.

I threw up during my first csection and got super nauseated during my second, but I asked for the medication as soon as I felt it the second time.

I didn't either time, but know people who did. Not sure how far dilated they were though.

I have never thrown up during labor. I'm willing to guess she knew your were that dilated because that's usually what happens when you go into transitioning.

No I didn't. I had heard that too, and I was a little nervous that I would, but I had an epidural...I wonder if that makes it less likely to throw up because you can't feel the pain as badly?

After delivery, when I got up for the first time though, I was so close to passing out that they broke some salts and waved it in my face for a good 5 minutes. I felt like I was about to puke right then...I wonder why that was. I didn't puke at all though.

I was actually sent to the hospital because my morning sickness was so bad...I was put on medication for it, and I didn't throw up during transitioning. I don't think I even felt transitioning (I had an epidural, but I got it when I was at 7 cm dilated...).

Not surprising, as it's a common sign of the transition phase of labor. I did, but in a bag in the bathroom with no one else around. ;)

This! I've heard that it is common for women to get sick during transitioning. I personally never threw up with either of my labors. But labor this last time I was shaking uncontrollably-I literally had to have hubby hold my water for me to drink out of cause I kept spilling it-I hear that is common to during transition.

Just how the body deals with transition I guess...

I threw up a ton! In fact, I only went to the hospital because I was throwing up so much I was getting dehydrated. In hindsight it was a blessing, because I was only at the hospital for 3 hours before I started pushing and the 1.5 liters of fluid they gave me really helped my strength to get through the last bit of labor.

I threw up a few times while pushing... I had been at 10cm for hours though. I think mine was a result of the extreme stabbing pain I had with each contraction from DD's skull getting jammed into my pelvis and the bone on bone pressure and grinding

I didn't get sick but it makes sense that it would happen during 7-8 (transitioning stage). That's the most painful part of labor. I was trembling during that part.

I threw up twice after my c-section but I think that had more to do with the pain meds than anything else.

Yes, but I don't think I had hit transition yet.

I vomited while we were still doing the admission questions, and then dry heaved a few contractions before I reached 10cm.

It was a 5 to 6 hr labor and the contractions were crazy intense right from the start.

Yes. Though I think it was earlier than that. LIke moving from 3-4 or 4-5. Somewhere around there. Honestly it felt wonderful after to take some of that pressure off. My doula loves when women vomit during labour because it shows a sign of progress.

I didn't..but I had an epidural and since I knew I was being induced, I hadn't eaten since the night before so my stomach didn't have anything in it by the time we got to the hospital.

During labor with DD1 I did throw up. I threw up a think twice, and that was during transition so I was about 8cm. With DD2, I shot to transition so quickly that we weren't entirely sure I was there as I had been only 3cm just five minutes previous. My nurse said she figured it was transition since this was my second, but offered some nausea meds. They didn't work, and I was checked just a moment later and was at 10cm. DD2 was born a mere 10 minutes later.

Since I was going natural, my nurse told me that she wouldn't bother checking me until I felt nauseous since that would signal transition. Well, I never got the nauseous feeling, and when I was screaming at my husband to get the nurse to have me checked, she didn't think I would be at an 8 since I hadn't gotten sick.

I had bad morning sickness at the beginning of pregnancy (lost 15 pounds) and didn't experience nausea during labor. So I didn't have a correlation.

Didn't throw up, but got super nauseated at around 8 cm (about the time I asked for an epidural).. I contributed it to the pain.

I almost threw up during labor, but I was only dilated to about 2 cm.  Of course, I was on pitocin and hadn't shown any progress for a couple hours.  I actually ended up having to have a c-section because DD flipped to breech during that time.  I never transitioned, and I also never had morning sickness, so I don't know that there is necessarily a correlation between either of those and nausea during labor.  It's probably just a reaction to pain.

I didn't even realize but I guess I was around 7 when I threw up. I only threw up once but throwing up has always happened to me when I am in intense pain.
